Hoosiers Fall to Toledo, 3-1

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana baseball (7-9) dropped a 3-1 decision in game two of a four-game series to the Toledo Rockets on Saturday afternoon from Bart Kaufmann Field.

Senior Evan Bell went nine innings and scattered nine hits to go along with four strikeouts. Freshman Ryan Fineman drove in the Hoosiers' lone run with an RBI single in the sixth inning.

Bell made quick work of Toledo in the top of the first, as the righty retired the side and collected two punch outs. The Rockets threatened in the second and had runners on the corners with one out, but Bell was able to jam the Toledo batter to force a flyout. SeniorBrian Wilhite showed some range up the middle and tossed to second to get the Hoosiers out of the jam.

A single through the middle by Austin Cangelosi and a walk to Isaiah Pasteur set the Hoosiers up in the bottom half of the second, but a diving catch by Toledo's centerfielder ended the Hoosiers' chance.

Toledo got on the board first in the third inning. With two on and two outs, the Rockets' Brad Boss singled through the right side to score the leadoff hitter Deion Tansel. The Rockets came back with more in the fourth, as they strung together three base-hits, resulting in two more runs to up the lead to 3-0.

A four-ptich walk to junior Craig Dedelow set the Hoosiers up in the bottom of the sixth. A one-out single by Fineman plated Dedlow and trimmed the deficit to 3-1. Dedelow led off the eighth with a single and advanced to second on a failed pickoff, but IU would come up empty.

Pinch-hit singles by sophomores Colby Stratten and Chris Lowe put two on for IU during the team's last chance, but a a strikeout ended any potential damage.

The Hoosiers and Rockets will wrap up this weekend's series with a double header on Sunday. First pitch of game one is slated for 12 p.m., with game two following roughly 30-45 minutes following the conclusion of the first contest.

Game Notes:Evan Bell's complete game was the first of his career…With a hit and a walk today, Craig Dedelow extended his career-best reached base streak to 21 games…Luke Miller and Alex Krupa each extended their reached base streak to 12 games apiece…Krupa has now recorded a hit in seven-straight games while Miler has reached base via a hit in five consecutive contests...Ryan Fineman extended his hitting streak to four games.
