Another Indiana Mr Basketball will be playing for IU since TJD won the 2019 award. It was expected but well deserved. Congratulations to him.

TJD seems to be coming in with less hype and excitement than other 5 star Indiana Mr. Basketball recruits. That is a good thing. We should let them come in develop their game.
A coach I talked to last weekend that supports Illinois has seen him play a few times and spoke very highly about TJD. It pained him to say that.
It is a nice feeling to have a front court with size and some experience. It has been a while since the 4 and 5 positions were legitimately 2 deep
Or no front court players. Crean thought an unskilled player like Hanner with Hartman as the backup was a good option.Agreed. How many years did we enter a season with really only 1 legit frontcourt player?

This team will get better when we have returning players able to play in their familiar roles. It is difficult to build experience and chemistry when a freshman classes are better than the returning talent and dominate the minutes. You can criticize CAM in a lot of areas, but I think most have to agree his recruiting and roster construction have been really good. One of the first times I recall that we should have legit depth at every position:
1: RP, DG
2: AD, DG, AF (LQ?)
3: JH, JS
4: TJD, RT
5: DD, JB
Quinnones could really help that roster next year. Sure you can criticize him for missing on Brooks, but I think most realize we're not going to get everyone. If I had a criticism in these areas it would have been not having more backup plans if Brooks didn't come, and to respond to possible transfers. He did good scrambling I think to get us involved with several guys, but I think it was foreseeable that we might not get KB and/or have transfers.
That is a good thing he is not hyped up and hopefully a three year player. I have only seen him play of you tube highlights so I have no idea how good he is but hopefully a three year guy.TJD seems to be coming in with less hype and excitement than other 5 star Indiana Mr. Basketball recruits. This roster is very mediocre. Crean had better rosters probably 5 of his last 6 years if we’re being realistic. You can criticize CAM in a lot of areas, but I think most have to agree his recruiting and roster construction have been really good. I don’t ever remember a single season besides maybe 2008-2009.Agreed. How many years did we enter a season with really only 1 legit frontcourt player?

There’s literally nothing to get excited about for next year.so when IU wins next year, with this roster of mediocre players, I assume you will admit that Archie can coach 'em up? Is everything in your world so negative? Are you ever happy, unless you are bitching and complaining and demeaning? You must be a lonely old curmudgeon.
There’s literally nothing to get excited about for next year.
We’ll be ranked 8-11th in the Big Ten preseason and everyone will throw a fit that the voters are biased and out to get us. Then we’ll likely finish there and end up in the NIT again. At best we sneak into the tournament as a low seed.
Have we not seen this movie enough already? Nothing is going to change until we find the right coach.
Of course you don't. You don't because you don't want to. Let me help you:I don’t ever remember a single season besides maybe 2008-2009.
When this was happening to Illinois and Groce we all pointed and laughed.I like the program that Archie is building. IU will continue to improve, as the roster makeup shows that there is actually a long-term plan for success. IU has the right coach.
JB couldn’t even start for Butler. And RT couldn’t see the floor last year for our NIT team. Davis is what he is and TJD has never played a college game. Im sure they’re good kids and I wish them well but that’s below average Big Ten quality.Of course you don't. You don't because you don't want to. Let me help you:
-How about 15-16... a freshman in Thomas Bryant... and? Freshman Juwan Morgan? Soph Troy Williams? Who are you counting as another frontcourt player?
-14-15 with Perea and Hartman? Of course we did have Jeremiah April and Tim Priller on that roster... so... yeah!
-13-14: Vonleh, and??? Freshman transfer Luke Fischer? Sophs Perea or Peter Jurkin?
-12-13: Zeller and? Better if you count Watford as a PF, but he did have the 2nd most 3 attempts on the team. At least he could legit guard the other teams 4... so maybe 1.5 post players? Still no depth.
-10-11: Elston and Pritchard, Watford (see above) and??? Little depth and poor post talent.
Look at those frontcourts and compare with 5 star TJD, top 40 and senior DD, around 100 ranked JB and top 100 RT. You are so unrealistic in your evaluations and "logic", it's a joke. Someone else is right: why do I even respond? No more. Consider yourself ignored.

Yet you’re criticizing former players who are in the NBA and scoffing at the fact that these PROFESSIONALS might be better than our roster of backups.
Feel free to come back and visit us on Earth sometime.

All I have heard is that he isn't a one and done. I'll pencil him in for at least 2 years and look at year 3 and 4 as a bonus. We have an expectation of what a 5 star can deliver. That is a good thing he is not hyped up and hopefully a three year player. I have only seen him play of you tube highlights so I have no idea how good he is but hopefully a three year guy.

I would be curious who he will be comparable to. Alan Henderson? That would be great. Alan was about the same size and about equally heralded. Cody was a little bigger and had a 3 point shot coming in (didn't use it at IU).
Hunter is the best option at the 3 with a 3rd guard or Smith as a possibility. Smith would have to show he can shoot and handle the ball better to be a viable option. He has the athleticism for the position. He needs to move in that direction if he wants to play in 2019.We need another wing player. Right now we are extremely thin and inexperianced at the position. Archie needs to land Quinnones or a high level grad player who can play the wing. I agree with you on all the other positions.
My expectations of freshmen, except the Romeo level freshmen, is that they need to be really good in several areas to beat out a senior or experienced junior player. Green has his flaws, but so do most freshmen on both ends of the court. Green will have to really screw up to not start through the first 10 gamesMan, another Henderson would be great, but I'm not going to put those expectations on him... because Henderson was so solid as a freshman, as was Zeller. It's great that he'll get to play with DD, but jeez, do we need shooters.
If I was Quinnones, I'd be salivating with this roster. Come in and work hard and he could easily earn a starting spot and be (one of) our primary shooter(s). If Hunter can come back and hit outside, I think we'll be better than many on here, because I expect RP, DG and AD to all improve, but LQ is the only guy of that bunch who really has the reputation as a good outside shooter.

It’s unbelievable how fans can convince themselves of beliefs based purely on blind hope.
Good luck to you.

I could see Archie focusing on guards with length that could play both the 2 and 3.

This isn't what we want to hear, but it is what I expect to happen
Beilein was a proven winner and went 21-14 his 2nd year at Michigan. And they made the tournament. In fact they even won a game in the tournament. When this was happening to Michigan and Beilein we all pointed and...
Shut up, douche

Pack a lunch buddy. You’re getting wore out on here with the facts.

All good points, but you fail to mention coaching. It must improve. The poor start to games is as much on the coaches as the players. A poorly designed offense, with the lack of movement, screening, and poor fundamentals is on the coaches. Is Archie the motivator, communicator, and leader good teams require? This upcoming season will tell us a lot because it isn’t an overly talented team so the coaching and leadership needs to get the guys playing together and with purpose and passion to play beyond their level of physical talent. It depends on a number of things:
1.) Limitation of distractions that caused their slide this past year, including injuries and chemistry issues.
2.) How much improvement the returning players show
3.) How good the freshmen are
4.) Whether Hunter plays and whether he is a potential 8-10ppg scorer for this team.
5.) Leadership: who or will someone step up to lead the team on the court?
6.) DeRon Davis' fitness level and dtermination to succeed.
7.) Lastly, any potential distractions that may come for Archie Miller, in particular having to deal with any fallout that may surround his brother's fate. Depending on what happens, that could be a big problem for Archie's focus.

An honest question. Do you really want a John Beilein level coach at IU? In his 12 years at Michigan he has only won 2 Big Titles, still hasn't won a national title, and has a 65% winning percentage.
He also only has two National Runner-Up finishes, an Elite Eight and two Sweet Sixteens in that time frame as well. Don't leave those out. Obviously Indiana strives for Championships. But given the results of the last 20 years or so of Indiana Basketball, that doesn't look too shabby. And I consider his name being mentioned around here more as an example of it taking a little bit of time to get things going as opposed to his overall results (which again, aren't too bad).
Again, he made the tournament in year 2 and was a proven coach before Michigan.Yes, but also in that second year he went 9-9 in the B1G for a 7th place finish...so I can see why you'd leave that part out. And then in year 3 he went 7-11 in conference and missed post-season play entirely. Then followed that up with another crowd pleasing 9-9 conference record in his 4th season in Ann Arbor before getting things rolling.
So STFU, "buddy". Your shtick is beyond old.
