I am disappointed to hear this, but not surprised. Tim Garl has been with IU's basketball program since 1981.
He has been a fixture for a long long time. I hope someone looks out for him if he needs help.I am disappointed to hear this, but not surprised. Tim Garl has been with IU's basketball program since 1981.

Nothing should be renewed for a 45th season. You wish the man well and give him thanks for an excellent career. No chance he would be the best fit for his position, same as Rink. Time to enjoy retirement and let young blood work long hours and do the best job.
Lots of good Ol’ boy stuff going away it seems. Not saying these guys didn’t do a good job but IU and Dolson seem to be cleaning house. Isn’t there a new sports medicine facility in the works?Nothing should be renewed for a 45th season. You wish the man well and give him thanks for an excellent career. Be a great decision if so. Haven’t heard about the new facility.Lots of good Ol’ boy stuff going away it seems. Not saying these guys didn’t do a good job but IU and Dolson seem to be cleaning house. Isn’t there a new sports medicine facility in the works?
Tim - Please write a book on Leadership. What an amazing career that started on Bear Bryant’s staff.
Gosh I hope there is a new facility like that coming. Build something badass right amongst Cook Hall, Assembly Hall, Memorial Stadium. Sports medicine is a huge part of the business side of sports...make Indiana THE destination for bright young aspiring doctors, trainers, therapists, physiologists, nutritionists. And let the sports teams be their "lab" work. Win/win.Lots of good Ol’ boy stuff going away it seems. Not saying these guys didn’t do a good job but IU and Dolson seem to be cleaning house. The Purge continues.I am disappointed to hear this, but not surprised. Tim Garl has been with IU's basketball program since 1981.
He has been here a long time. It is time to get a new guy here. He will always be appreciated for his service. That won't change.I am disappointed to hear this, but not surprised. Tim Garl has been with IU's basketball program since 1981.
It seems like that would open IU up to additional lawsuits.Lawsuit related? I wonder if that's not the real reason for it.
Why? His contract was up. It wasn't a firing. It seems like that would open IU up to additional lawsuits.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t let him go but linking this action to the pending lawsuit might be problematic. Why? His contract was up. It wasn't a firing.
Less walking boots going forward?I am disappointed to hear this, but not surprised. Tim Garl has been with IU's basketball program since 1981.
Tim Garl is Knight, Davis, Sampson, Crean, Miller, Woodson. He's been highly respected for a long time.Lots of good Ol’ boy stuff going away it seems. Not saying these guys didn’t do a good job but IU and Dolson seem to be cleaning house. Isn’t there a new sports medicine facility in the works?
I get that but how many are retained for 45 years?Tim Garl is Knight, Davis, Sampson, Crean, Miller, Woodson. He's been highly respected for a long time.
More like throwing away a meteorite and saying you are getting all the rocks out of the lawn.
undoubtedly related to the lawsuit.I get that but how many are retained for 45 years?
I wondered that as well. What I read, and reported in the media likely means it is false, was that he was named because he told Knight but that was felt not to be enough.Lawsuit related? I wonder if that's not the real reason for it.
The statement from his lawyer is a big tell.I wondered that as well. What I read, and reported in the media likely means it is false, was that he was named because he told Knight but that was felt not to be enough.
1981-2024 is 43 years. Should be close to retirement but not a great way to go out. Seems IU could have done something different to reward 4 decades.
A shame but but surprising. The statement from his lawyer is a big tell.
Shame it ends like that.
They seem to think NIL money will last without winning or tradition or having integrity. He should of retired on his own terms. Is Larry Rink going to be back? What's next candy stripes gone and names on the back of jerseys.
I think this is on Scott's list. I hope it happens.Gosh I hope there is a new facility like that coming. Build something badass right amongst Cook Hall, Assembly Hall, Memorial Stadium. Maybe they did ask him to retire and he refused. Maybe his lawyers told him not to retire. Hard telling what happened here under the circumstancesThey seem to think NIL money will last without winning or tradition or having integrity.
With Garl, they should have asked him to retire with dignity. The man has been literally the most dedicated member of the basketball program since the day he got there.
Good point. There may be more money for Garl this way. Perhaps another law suit. Who knows. Having no inside info, at this point in time, to me it is a negative on IU.Maybe they did ask him to retire and he refused. Maybe his lawyers told him not to retire. Hard telling what happened here under the circumstances
They fired Bob Knight. They'll fire anyone.Never assume IU administration will have the back of someone who devoted a career to them.
I wouldn't mind names on the jerseys, NIL has made it so you just get to recognizing these guys and then they're gone. Kids today want everyone to know who they are.He should of retired on his own terms. Is Larry Rink going to be back? What's next candy stripes gone and names on the back of jerseys.
Just put a QR code on the back of their shirts you can scan them and get their names and all their stats and their social media and their NIL deal details.I figured by there tiki tok and Twitter there well known enough.
That's probably no joke before long. Don't give anybody ideas.Just put a QR code on the back of their shirts you can scan them and get their names and all their stats and their social media and their NIL deal details.
We need to push boomers out of most positions. Lord knows they wont leave themselves even if they are burning the place down.Nothing should be renewed for a 45th season. You wish the man well and give him thanks for an excellent career. No chance he would be the best fit for his position, same as Rink. You cant be an asshole and not also win. Dude stopped winning. This is the lesson every asshole needs to learn. They fired Bob Knight. They'll fire anyone.
