Great flick - terrific sounding movie as well on a surround setup with the waves, creaking ships, battles, baroque chamber music, etc. Outstanding.
I have a buddy who is heavily into O'Brian's books. His one warning is that O'Brian doesn't explain nautical terms, so expect to stop and look up a lot of things if you aren't familiar with sailing terminology. I bet they are still better reads than Moby.
It is amazing Napoleon did as well as he did. On the oceans he had to fight Jack Aubrey and Horatio Hornblower, and on land Richard Sharpe. I've read maybe five each of Hornblower and Sharpe. All are excellent, but wow, do they ever kill a lot of frogs. It wasn't the Russian winter that defeated Napoleon.
I was on my way to and Cochran came into my head and I remembered. God I hated that song.Admit it...you got pissed because you had to look it up.
