The Good:
1. Tayven is absolutely a good QB, especially for a freshman.
2. The offensive line is far, far better than last year, in pass blocking (the flip side will be below)
3. We've finally started to mix Jaylin in as a receiver, and he's productive like we were told he'd be.
4. The defense can lock teams with good athletes down, although I'm not sure what the two first-half busts were about.
5. Our receivers are pretty good blocking on the outside for screens and outside runs.
6. Aaron Casey is clearly the next absolute stud at linebacker in the line of them we've had under Allen.
The OK/Average:
1. The defensive line is OK at putting pressure on the QB but struggles with contain and haven't gotten many actual sacks.
2. The Linebackers and Huskies in coverage. They were exploited over the middle in the 2nd half of OSU, but not really since then.
3. Walt Bell has finally shown at least a little bit of creativity. Not enough, but something.
The Bad:
1. Our offensive line still can't run block, basically at all.
They get next to no push and the option is our only fleeting success on runs.
Say what you want about the call, but they got completely blown up on 4th down.
2. The defensive line seems to be pretty bad against the run,
and combined with the only passable pass-rush, are fairly disappointing so far.
3. The tight ends are complete non-factors. Archer had a good catch today, but otherwise there's zero production or notable blocking here.
4. The running backs, including Lucas, have been a little disappointing. The blocking hasn't really been there, but they've not really shown an ability to make people miss and create by themselves either, which when it comes to Jaylin specifically, is near shocking.
5. Walt Bell's planning in general is still bad. He's insistent upon the option, which, while the only thing that has gotten our backs in space, doesn't suit Tayven at all. He's slow and clearly an unnatural runner. Also, there's the bizarre gameplan against OSU and his tendency to completely turtle and turn ultra-conservatives at odd times. He's done nothing to get off the hot seat.
6. Tom Allen's general game and time management are still bad and leave a lot to be desired.
