There's got to be some intramural players at the HYPER building that can shoot...........

....................and suit up for Woodson.
Looking at the box score from yesterdays game left me apoplectic. Our guards either didn't shoot, or when they did (look at PS's line) they missed.
Do the Soul Trotters still suit up a team like they did in the 70's and 80's? We could use them

Anyone remember Dave Kramme who played QB in the mid 80s? Got into a HYPER game with him and he never missed a shot. The guy should have been playing at Assembly Hall.

We've all played with guys that could shoot lights out in pickup games. Big difference doing it in a large arena with high division 1 level guys guarding you.

I bet there's more name recognition on this board for the HYPER bldg. than the "Wm. Leon Garrett Fieldhouse".
Hell, he's not even the 1st most recognized Garrett at IU for any self-respecting B-ball fan
.
Who cares. I posted it to show the name. Not for a rant about recognition.

I will always call it the HYPER no matter what, just seems right!

I played a few good pickup games there, but most of the time I wasnt worth a darn because of being too hungover or running on 2 bad knees. I did have most of my classes in the HYPER too Being a sports mgt/rec major, the easiest courses ever!

I have seen better shooters at the state fair.

Thanks to your illustrative post, only now folks can now understand what I was saying. Without your selfless dedication we all would have been struggling to understand my point. You're really a civic minded individual and we all appreciate your heroic effort.

How thoughtful. Unlike most I don’t need validation from a Bippy.

One of IU's better QBs for sure. I also played against a couple IU QBs and they were both surprisingly physical considering how bad they looked on TV. Neither was a great shooter though.

Yep. I played against Joe Hillman at the HPER several times and I'd never guarded anyone so far from the basket. He'd shoot out to about 24' and was deadly, but he rarely shot in games and when he did, it wasn't at the level of marksmanship he showed at the HPER. Of course older fans will remember he came to IU after averaging 44pts a game in HS, so he knew how to put the biscuit in the basket!

Good god, what a farking mess you are.

Wm. stands for William.
William is also Bill.
Bill Garrett is absolutely the 1st most recognized Garrett at IU for any self-respecting B-ball fan.

It even talks about him on the wiki page.

Hey genius, more folks on this forum would recognize DEAN Garrett than Bill. You can "fark" yourself clown

No, it's pretty basic. What's the age of the typical person posting here?
OLD. Old enough to know damn well who Bill Garrett was.

Dean Garrett played here two years? three?

Bill Garrett was a groundbreaker and IU has done quite a lot in recent years to recognize him/his family and keep that name top of mind. Not to mention the very public discussion about renaming Wildermuth and choosing to honor Garrett when it was renamed.

Big Dean played 2 years., when he was brought in w Keith, IIRC the JUCO route was very atypical for Coach.

I did not think loosing Franklin and Durham was that big of deal at all given I thought we had shooters coming in . But both are basically busts and neither can break their guy down off the dribble. So they are one demensional players who cannot shoot.

Yeah but none of them have the vertical jump to get over the Menu from Nick's when it is laid on the floor in front of them. We would much rather have a Guard with above average vertical Who shots 25% from the floor.

Where is Nick Zeislofts Brother when We could use Him.

This illustrates how out of touch we as IU fans are: if you remember or even know about 1987, then you're already pretty old. Young folks for the most part don't know about 1987, and especially anyone not named Alford or Smart. If you remember 1987 and Dean Garrett, then you probably know something of IU's history and Bill Garrett, especially with all the recognition about his historical relevance.

By the way, "Getting Open" I thought was a fun read as an IU fan and I don't think it seems very well-known on here. If you can, get a copy and give it a read!
