You can just randomly say, "I'll watch some hockey tonight," and accidentally fall into a great game. Tonight in the first game of the Western finals, Dallas tied it late, and then they played Edmonton through a scoreless 20 minutes OT. So now they get a short break, then back for another OT.

But every OT is sudden death, so the game can end literally at any moment. You can't look away, or you'll miss it.

And bang. I get up to get a brew to watch the 2nd OT and I hear SCORE from the kitchen. Man that was fast. Great game and the goalie play tonight was awesome.

Took a future on Edmonton to win it all so hoping they come through. What amazed me is my Sportsbook didn't really have a number for Vancouver who Edmonton beat in 7 games to get here. They are just coming on in the playoffs kinda like the Pacers who haven't really been there before this year in a long time. The other night the reporter asked a Pacers player assuming they were not supposed to beat the Knicks having not been in the playoffs before. Whatevs

Anyways love the Stanley Cup its intense!

No joke. I got a snack ready and a refreshed drink, and sat down just as they were about to drop the puck, and then, whoops, over.

Knock out stage of World Cup is as good or better as is the NCAA tournament. Playoff Hockey is in that group. Football offends me with its stupidity... everything else equals nap time.

More drama tonight with OT in the East, too. Scoreless 2nd period, scoreless 3rd period, and now halfway through a scoreless OT. Goalies are on it.

Edit: And that's that. Florida in control, in control, in control, Rangers nab the puck, 3-on-2, boom, game over, series tied. I love this sport.

The only issue I have with hockey is the outsized importance of the goalie. One goalie can take a good team but not great deep.
No shit. My son's team played a tournament against a team they dominated, keeping it in their offensive zone 90% of the game. But this team brought a triple A goalie, and he must have had 60 saves. Kid was incredible. Lost to them 0-1 on a bullshit goal our goalie let through.

The worst part about it: their fans. They had three women (middle-aged, plump) that were screaming at the top of their lungs at the refs on every single call or hit made on one of their players, then cheering for their kids to light up ours. Most obnoxious people I've ever been around at a game.

It was so, so sweet when we played them in the championship and beat them 4-0, with the same griping women. I typically don't care much about the outcomes but that one was so satisfying.

I don’t know how you fix the goalie deal.
Love it!!! What age do they start checking?

A second issue is too many lines and short shifts. Play two lines and leave the players on longer. Let them get more of a feel.

Yeah it is tantamount to a pitcher. So what’s the latest with your son and hockey?
Completed the JV spring season without a concussion or major injury. No cuts for spring. Will try out for JV in August, but in the fall they cut down to 20 per team, and he'll get cut. He has hope, though (I do not, but encourage it in him), and is planning on working hard this summer to get better. Problem is, he won't work hard enough or consistently enough and I'll have to remind him, which will piss me off, which will lead to an angry lecture from me, which will leave me feeling guilty, etc.

His Bantam club team is rolling through the season. It's the most lopsided league he's played in. Won their one tourney (discussed above) and have only that one loss to the Triple A goalie. In the regular season, they are 7-0 with 54 GS and 4 GA.

Fingers crossed for him. If he does get cut can he still play club at the same time and progress?

Good to hear re concussions. Don’t go cheap. Buy the best ccm or Bauer. Va Tech U rates them. Go to their website

Luka mouthing several FUs as he kept making plays.

Is it just me or does Luka look pudgy? He certainly doesn’t look like he’s familiar with the weight room.

Yep, he'll still play club.

I don't know if he can get faster on the ice, but that's what he needs. I think it's just genetic, though.

Anyone still watching?

If Edmonton comes back and wins this series after down 3-0, this will be historic.

I don't want to jinx it*, but Sunday is looking like a great day for sports that involve goals:

3:00 - Euros Group A last match day
6:00 - USA Copa America opener
8:00 - Stanley game 7

*And Florida literally scored while I was typing that? Man, I'm cursed.

I don't understand what those first two are, but I think @Univee2 might need to make an appearance here.

Meh…. I’m watching the Olympic trials. Track and field and swimming . I don’t know what the first two are either. Oh and the Fever play the Sky this weekend. I would watch a game 7 Stanley Cup, but don’t normally care about hockey.

Swimming has been on fire. And tomorrow is the men’s 10m diving finals. Purdue has 4 divers in the final 8. Sunday is women’s 10m and 2 of the top 3 are from Purdue.

But we’ve got Lilly King! We were there yesterday. Great event!

When the Red Sox came back from 3-0 to beat the Yankees in 2004, by game 6 the Yankees were wound up so tight that games 6 & 7 seemed uncontested.
