Was that 4th and 1 early in the game where they ran the sneak and didn't get it.
I don't mind going for it there, even though there's a decent argument just to take the points. My problem is the predictability of it. IU has run that same QB sneak play so many times in the past few years on short yardage, with the quick run up to the line and the RB offset behind it. And with both Penix and Ramsey when he was here, it normally worked. But the past few times we've run it, teams have been 100% ready and figured it out and tightly packed the line. We got a TD with it against Idaho, but even they prevented any real hole, and then Cincy stuffed it for a loss.
Why is that the only play we only run out of that formation? It is a big neon sign broadcasting to everyone in the world what we are doing. And what makes it more frustrating is that the formation seems to have two pretty obvious counter plays they could use but don't. Like, with the RB being offset, you could send them in quick motion on a jet sweep with the defense presumably packed tight into the middle. Or, again taking advantage of the alignment and its predictable nature thus far, you could flare the RB out and throw the quick swing pass to them.
I get that I'm not a coach, but it just really, really annoys me that they use a formation with literally one play, and one play alone, they ever have run out of it. And not just this year, either; I can't remember that look ever being anything BUT a sneak. And to me the predictability of that is emblematic of our offense's issues with just being far too predictable in general.
