The Packline Excuse

So here’s another one we’ve heard from the Archie apologists. “Give Archie time to teach the packline, it’s a difficult defense to learn”. Ok fine I accepted this, yet here we are with a poor defense, yet in year 3 at Virginia Tony Bennett had the #5 defense based on Kenpom.

Our offense is much worse...we play good enough defense to win most of our games if not all, our issue is we can’t score enough to play with those teams

Right Smitty but if what we thought was supposed to happen like us having a top 10 defense, I would be fine waiting on the offense, but that’s not the case it all sucks.

I though I read we currently have one of the worst defenses in the bug ten.

What I don't like about it is that it is not working, even if they are trying. If you are going to use a gimmick system, do something like Syracuse and actually recruit towards it as they do. When they play that with the length they usually have, abracadabra, it works. Otherwise, if you are not recruiting towards a system, you should be recruiting guys that are good enough to play man D in the B10

When it comes to defense Archie was lucky that all he had to do was improve on Creans ridiculous defense, which he did in year 1, but in year 3 it should b locking people down good shooting or not. Tony Bennett struggled with offense as I remember some of his games and still today being in the 40s. Like I said if we were absolutely locking people down but were just devoid of shooters all would b good.
