For several weeks here now, we’ve talked not only about the high mutual interest between South Kent (Conn.) High four-star guard Tremont Waters and Indiana, but also that the national point guard dominoes could help steer him the Hoosiers’ way.

The 5-11, 160-pound point guard – ranked as the No. 39 player nationally – has listed a top seven of Duke, Georgetown, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, UConn and Yale in no particular order.

Here’s an updated look at the current point guard situation with some of those schools.

Kentucky

Top targets:
· Five-star Trae Young – 6-1, 170-pound guard from Norman (Okla.) North is ranked as the No. 14 player nationally.
· Five-star Quade Green – 6-0, 165-pound guard from Philadelphia Neumann-Goretti is ranked as the No. 25 player nationally.

The skinny: Young has a top six of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kentucky, Texas Tech and Washington, but the Sooners and Cats are considered the top two among recruiting circles.

Green has a top nine of Arizona, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Syracuse, Temple, Villanova and Xavier, but the Cats and Blue Devils are considered among the top two in recruiting circles.

Would Kentucky really miss on both of their top point guard targets? It wouldn’t shock to see Young pick Oklahoma, or separately, Green pick Duke – it would be a bit surprising, though, to see the Cats miss on both of them combined.

Regardless, folks at UK seem pretty confident in getting Young. That would bode well for IU, as Green would probably pick…

Duke

Top targets:
· Five-star Quade Green – 6-0, 165-pound guard from Philadelphia Neumann-Goretti is ranked as the No. 25 player nationally.
· Four-star guard Tremont Waters - 5-11, 160-pound guard from South Kent (Conn.) High is is ranked as the No. 39 player nationally.

The skinny: Green seems to be the guy for Duke here. If Kentucky misses on both Young and Green, they could certainly dip down for Waters. There’s a chance Duke would do the same if they don’t get Green.

Kansas

Top targets:
· Five-star Collin Sexton – 6-1, 170-pound guard from Pebblebrook (Ga.) Mableton is ranked as the No. 12 player nationally.

The skinny: In addition to Sexton, Kansas has been mentioned with a handful of other point guards. They are in the top lists for the aforementioned Young, Green and Waters. Kansas has also been in communication with 6-2, 189-pound Dallas Advanced Preparatory five-star Trevon Duval (as well as Indiana,) who’s ranked as the No. 5 player nationally.

The Jayhawks added a commitment this summer from 6-5, 180-pound Dallas Skyline four-star combo guard Marcus Garrett, who’s classified as a point guard by Rivals. He’s ranked as the No. 44 player nationally. Are they even taking another point guard?

Sexton has a top ten of Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Kansas, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Oklahoma State and Villanova. Some think Alabama leads for Sexton, but his camp has been adamant he has no leaders.

UConn

Top targets:
· Four-star Makai Ashton-Langford – 6-2, 180-pound guard from Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy is ranked as the No. 40 player nationally.

The skinny: Some news dropped this week when Louisville added a commitment from four-star point guard Darius Perry on Aug. 16. The 6-2, 185-pound guard from Marietta (Ga.) Wheeler is ranked as the No. 87 player nationally.

That clears the way for UConn to potentially land Ashton-Langford, as most believe the No. 40 player nationally – who was considering Louisville – will now choose between the Huskies and Providence.

Best case scenario for Indiana:
· Kentucky: Trae Young
· Duke: Quade Green
· Kansas: N/A, Collin Sexton or another option
· UConn: Makai Ashton-Langford

Not that Indiana may need any help landing Waters – they’re already in very good position with him – but the above scenario would leave IU, Georgetown and Yale from Waters’ top seven.
