Oh I think to actually win a natty, we'll need a favorable draw. Maybe getting Boise State in the first round, and then ACC or B12 champ in the 2nd round, somehow? Not sure we'd beat 3-4 of the best SEC/B10 teams in a row.
But I'd rather make it to the CFP, and lose, than not make it and win a bowl game, for certain.

We played weak teams, but we also beat the holy f*** out of them like we should have. Damn near any IU team from the past 20-30 years would be 5-5 or 4-6 with this same schedule, and the wins would be less than 10 points. We hung on to beat MI with our starting quarterback having just had a surgical procedure on his throwing hand and missing the previous game.
This Saturday needs to be either a win, or a loss of 6 or less. Honestly, with the game being @OSU, if we lose, it probably needs to be on a last second field goal, or some other end-of-game drama that gives OSU the win in order for the committee to have respect for us. Conversely, if we win on a last second field goal I could see the committee saying “yeah, IU won, but barely”. I still get the feeling they’re looking for a reason to keep IU out because it’s IU and we’re not supposed to be there.
All that said, I believe it will take a nearly perfect game from us this Saturday to win. OSU is a damn good team and it’s in their house. I just don’t want boneheaded plays like false starts, off sides and late hits to be the deciding factor.
Betting odds have OSU (-20000) to make the playoff (99.5% chance). They are in as long as they don't lose to both IU and Mich.

I would be okay with IU in the Citrus Bowl mainly because it is a short drive away for me. Still, I'm a bit surprised at the number of IU fans who still doubt this team in terms of playing up there with the best. As was posted earlier in this thread; a couple of drops by Sarrat, a couple of very bad calls, a couple of injuries and I believe IU had a player out due to targeting; all of these things helped keep Mich in the game and IU still prevailed. This IU team has convinced me! I will not be upset if they struggle at The Shoe, many teams have experienced that often, but IU has an opportunity to do something very special on Saturday.
I don't think the OPI penalty was a bad call; Horton ran straight at and into the UM DB.
It wasn’t even on Horton, it was on Cooper, and it was an awful call. One can debate if he was just running his route, but even if you think he intentionally ran into the DB, the ball was not in the air when the contact occurred, by rule it cannot be pass interference.
I don’t know. The committee is made up of a diverse group of members from various coaching and AD backgrounds. Unless they are all shills for the SEC, I don’t see IU necessarily having to win this game.
Also, if they completely disrespected IU, it doesn’t show in their weekly brackets. They were consistently keeping IU in about the same spot. If you saw a continual drop with each iteration, you could say the writing is on the wall. It’s not happened.

I HATE Kirby Smart and Georgia but if they do win out and do not win the SEC he may have a case. They some good wins and have played a tough schedule. I have seen that too many times. You are correct ... the B1G NEEDS certain teams to win and the refs will do anything in their power to make that happen. Ask Nebraska fans about their OSU game.
That might be a factor for fans but what was said by Cignetti, to the OSU staff and players probably means very little. Unlike fans, coaches and players think differently. They are focused on the game itself, performance, execution to win. Yes, some players after the game might bring it up if they win but it will not mean it cost IU the game if they lose. Comments don't make plays, players do.
I didn't mean to imply this chant, if it even happens, will affect the psyche of the IU players as an earwig might. I just think it will be a unique auditory experience to hear 100,000 Ohio State fans chanting it. Everyone knows Cignetti's preseason quote. He's put IU football back on the map.
I honestly think you're giving Cignetti and IU's importance in the minds of OSU fans too much credit. Despite the undefeated season, and the top 5 ranking, I would be shocked if more than about 10% of their fans are even entertaining the thought of this game being even marginally competitive. I can't think of a game I've wanted IU to win more than I want them to win Saturday. And thinking of the average OSU fan having to deal with it, is more than a little part of that.
