Soros is 95, give or take, he’s got to die eventually. I wouldn’t bet on him making it to the next Presidential election.

She represents say 20% of the populace. What if she has to split that with independent presidential candidate Bernie?! 10% each? Can’t blame that on Agent Orange.

‘Twould be interesting if that led to a new party. Three parties:

The Jerks, led by Agent Orange
The Wokes, led by AOC
The Twerks, the rest of us in the middle

The three parties could be:

MAGA Party
Reagan Republican Party
WOKE Democratic Party

Country isn't set up to have three parties though.

I’ll bet against that AOC being the Presidential candidate. I don’t think the Democrats are that dumb, but I could be wrong. $50?

I wouldn’t bet much more than that. She’s clearly laying the groundwork to try.

And I can’t escape the sense that Democratic voters are at a similar point with their party’s establishment wing as Republican voters were during Obama’s 2nd term.

If our two major parties both go full populist, does it finally clear the space for a viable 3rd option?

The system is built to make a viable third party almost impossible. Plus, I always wonder how much of what people say would carry over to the ballot box.

It's an interesting question. Democrats were able to save themselves from the socialists in 2016, at the last minute. It's probably a coin flip they'll be able to do it again. Eventually AOC (or someone like her) will become the face of the party. The underline issue that is driving populism is the monetary issues. I don't know how anyone can look at how terrible people under 30 are doing (in comparison to older generations) and think it's going away. It doesn't go away until the monetary issues get fixed. The younger generations, who are getting screwed, are only going to become a larger percentage of the voters.

There was a brief moment in time, not that long ago, where it looked like Ross Perot had a legitimate shot at the presidency. It didn’t last long, and flamed out well before November 1992. But people who had been scoffing at him weren’t doing it anymore.

I actually largely agree with you. And wouldn’t even have been challenging you just a handful of years ago. But we’ve never really had a situation where both parties would be explicitly running against the political establishment.

And what is driving the monetary issue?

Yep and her message will be the technocrats are the evil people causing their pain and we need to tax the rich to solve it. Eventually, enough young people will fall for it. Thankfully, Elon was smart enough to know whomever control the messaging wins, though. So, I'm hope conservatism will be able to win in the end.

Directionality speaking I think the future parties are roughly:

Democrats turning more towards a socialist/European type of party with higher taxes on the wealthy and more regulations.

For Republicans I hope they embrace Bitcoin and at least become the smaller government, less regulations, smaller military, and closed borders party.

Plurality of Democrat voters want the party to become more moderate. So not sure I agree with your take.

In other words, Democrats want to move to the right and be more like MAGA?

@CO. Hoosier they can't beat us, so they want to be us.

Why are we increasing the money supply faster than the growth of output?
Not sure. I have half dozen thoughts and a dozen more questions on it, so I couldn't give you a good answer. My simplistic answer. A centralized fiat monetary system is doomed to fail because of it's inherent flaws. It requires (or allows) people managing it, rather than the free market. And it also requires to always be increasing or it will collapse. Take 2008, should we have intervened or let the system collapse and take the medicine? The problem with that question is we already know the answer. The powers at be are always going to intervene and "save" the system, until they can't.

No matter how you slice it, this is closer to reality and anyone outside the top 10-20% are struggling. They're going to continue voting for change and disruption in my opinion.

I reckon that gal has a better chance at a Mixology Degree than the POTUS gig, but bless her heart anyway.

Seems like the early oddsmakers want to run it back with the other gal...

This is largely what I’m hearing - and what I’d like to see. From where I’m sitting in 2025, I’d have to think the Democrats would win walking away in ‘28 with someone like Shapiro, Beshear or Whitmer at the top of the ticket.

I think that’s only because it’s early and most people don’t follow politics closely. The next democratic presidential nominee probably isn’t as highly visible to the general electorate yet, but I think they’ll start working on that soon.

Can you imagine an election with the choices of AOC or JD?

I'd have to join Rosie in Ireland.
