Watching the SIU quarterback in his backfield with no one around him, staring down T J Simmons who was at least 5 yards dead ahead. Simmons froze and allowed the runner to run to him, thus giving him at least five yards and then missed his tackle, and the play went for a big gain.

LBs were simply awful yesterday.
Simmons included. Veterans stunk up the place.
Agreed....very disappointed in TJ and Inge's crew. Simmons needs the dreads back badly.....not sure what the others had for excuses. As you have stated before....."just ill prepared". Prolly the worst defensive effort under KW. Let us all hope for that vast improvement from game 1 to game 2.

The defining defensive moments were forcing two fumbles and stopping a 2pt conversion with the game on the line. If you think that final play was only a "dropped pass" you missed the hit, which would have kept him out of the endzone if he had caught the ball (and the fact the hit ensured an incomplete pass) and the pressure from the edge from the pass rush on the QB.
