He's a real PG ... what he lacks physically, he more than makes up for with court sense and IQ. Teams that don't blitz or hedge him get carved up. Got to take the ball out of his hands as much as possible and make others make the plays.
They're playing well enough to make the tourney and lose in the first round. That team will be exposed by quickness. It's a Purdue tradition.

It's not bullshit .. they want validation, not giving them one bit.
Painter builds teams that are successful in reg season but has lost to 5 double digit seeds in tourney. No coach has a worse record. Not one. To lose that many times to double digit seeds shows there's something fundamentally wrong with his approach. One or two are expected outliers and normal, five times is a consistent flaw.
Same as Woodson getting blown out consistently and Miller having teams shoot us out of the gym... it's not happenstance ... it's an inherent flaw.
IU has nothing to do with it, IU sucking does not make their tourney record any better. On the other hand, their tourney incompetence doesn't make IU any better... but it's still good for a week or two of laughs ..
You’re so miserable it’s comical - don’t worry your validation isn’t needed, wanted or asked for. You arent respected by your own IU posters. I have two sons 15 and 18 who have never seen IU win - think about that for a minute - and then ask yourself why anyone would seek validation from a program which last won a championship when Reagan was President.

I mean, at the end of the day, does their current success have any real meaning or importance if they never win a championship? I think the answer is a resounding no. Without a championship or championships, it doesn’t matter how much success they have right now or how far IU falls from grace. The one has no impact on the other. Champions are immortal and will be remembered throughout the annals of history. No one gives two shits about the Buffalo Bills, Utah Jazz, or Purdue Boilermakers of the world and they never will.

I've not kept up on Catchings. Is he playing badly? I liked him a lot when he was at Brownsburg.
I really liked Smith when he was at Westfield. He had that special ability to raise the level of the other players and the crowd would just go ballistic. In another thread it was discussed about what his career would look like if he went to IU. What a shame that we thought he would be a sub and probably have a career like Leal.

I’m not sure I agree. Change system with culture and I would agree. He has proven that he will build his system to highlight his best player each year. In the last few years, we’ve seen a PG, SG, SF, PF, and C all have offenses built around them. We have also seen elite athletes come in and be coached up and become high draft picks.
So I think it’s not so much his system, but his culture he recruits to. He can make his system feature who’s good. In one year he went from featuring a C to featuring a PG and mid-season this year, he changed defensive philosophies to fit his team after Jacobson got hurt.
