Thad Matta

When he was older he had back issues and the drop foot thing. He was in bad shape towards the end of his coaching career.
Damn man, how old are you? I'm 66 1/2, grew up in Southern Indiana and watched ball since I was about 5. I don't recall much of anything about Adolf Rupp.

Didn't he also leave OSU because he was basically physically unable to continue? Left one job and failed a physical to get another high D1 job. Doesn't sound like BS to me. I think he had severe back issues that ultimately were treated and got better. He looked broken down and in pain from what I remember at OSU at the end.
Yeah, it was not cancer or back problems. It was issues with drop foot. This info is directly from one of the 4 or 5 people directly involved in the negotiations. I remember getting roasted at the time I shared it because some other poster with a history of being an imbecile shared the same info (maybe fepaugh), but the facts don’t change a bit.

Steve Green was being recruited by Rupp. He had to go to the hospital to visit Rupp. He had all kind of issues late in his career, Could barely walk..

Yeah I remember an old interview with Steve. He said rupp told him you don't want to play in that kind of offense (meaning Knight's kind)

I continue to be unconcerned with anyone’s beliefs. I don’t mean this to come off aggressive because this isn’t a pissing match, but I know this to be absolute fact. To Matta’s credit, he was the one that made the call after much consternation. He wanted the IU job, but in the end felt he’d be doing a disservice because he was still dealing with a lot of trouble due to his drop foot issues.
