Texas Tech

Getting a little sick of all these know-nothings that realized for the first time last night that Chris Beard might be a good coach coming on here and starting threads about him as if they're offering some sort of insight.

Not sure how we miss these guys. Solid coaching, and I do not want to hear how he has better talent, etc. TT is no fluke. Watching the NCAA is really showing how far out we are from the rest of the “big boys”.

I’ve mentioned him before , but we always get the AM defenders, just like we used to get the TC defenders. We are clearly not even in the same class. And the MSU wins do not change that.

No one here, at least not that I saw, noticed him going 30-5, making the dance and beating Purdue 4 years ago at Little Rock. For that matter no one noticed a win over Kansas this year by 39!

They lost five seniors from last year so I would say he is the real deal. They would mop the floor vs IU.

How wrong were you about Archie?

Damn it seems like the people that have a clue stay on the free board.. been saying for months he’s a top 5 coach in the country. Learned under the man that made this program special.

Use the free trial and check out the 250 reply thread on him started last night

About as wrong as you. If you want to check my post history and find something really incriminating, like me proclaiming Archie the 2nd coming, feel free.

You wont though because you're FOS, and make all your posts by attributing comments to people that they never made.

ya, quit throwing all this money at me! quit trying to tear me away from West Texas!

He gone....

He may be gone, but he's not coming here. The time to get him, if he would have considered it, was in 2016. You can thank Fred for missing that if you like.

Archie will get more time here, and he should.

I think plenty of people have noticed. It seems the only ones late to the party are the Fire the coach crowd who are just now noticing him. That probably tells you all you need to know about what they know about coaches.

His was starting to be mentioned in austin after Shaka's 2nd year going 11-22. I doubt he would pick Bloomington over Austin. He is an Texas alum and student/grad asst. His kids will still be near.

What would Glass offer - IF he was shopping for a coach - which he is not? Who would Beard seek as an advisor? How many oil guys would instantly line up to match any offer Glass might be able to make? There are some dynamics to this kind of thing. What on earth makes the observer/experts on this board think that they know more than merely fulfilling their dreams the only way they know of?

Without looking it up, some of you Chris Beard/TTU experts tell us who Mark Adams is?

I think he'd stay at TTU rather than take an open UT job. Shaka Smart is REALLY good, but like many new coaches he's gotta get people who can commit themselves to the program he's building. He is a Texas alum, but a long time loyal guy to the program at TTU. He's not a kid.

I think of Texas Tech as IU West Texas. Lot of RMK influence even in the current staff. The arena's dedication game was hosting - Ta Da - IU coached by Knight. USA Arena is located on? Indiana Avenue, Lubbock Texas. Uniforms are similiar. TTU is a throwback to RMK teachings and methods - maybe with a bit softer voice.

But, an IU inquiry, made through the Athletic Department to get permission, would sure result in Beard getting a nice raise from TTU. I imagine he'd appreciate the boost.

You keep repeating that. Are you personal friends with him I take it??
No I'm not personal friends. I have met him years ago. Knowing about his life and background and paying attention to what he says and does tells one what is needed. Is there a number too big to turn down? Probably. Would IU ever pay that much? No.

.....and 2 years ago Archie was. If we give Beard less than 2 years to become "elite" again here, what do you think will happen? We graduated 5 (including starting PG and SG) off a team that didn't make the NIT and got a 1 seed in this year in that NIT and won two games before losing to a team that had won 22 of 24 and would have been an NCAA team if not for a bad start. Nope....no improvement at all, right? You guys need to stop smoking so much green, and you might be able to get some of your short term memory back. Beard is a great coach, but TT had a much better roster situation when he took over (not losing most of their backcourt in year 1 with the previous coach (Pat Knight) having no plan to replace them and not liking to bring in more than one player at a time who can play the 5). Apples to Oranges...

Beard is considered the hottest up-and-coming coach in a long long time.

Shaka has given no one any reason to believe he’s really good and he’s already been there for four years, he’s not really “new”.

Do you watch basketball? Shaka Smart is barely above .500 at Texas and on the hot seat. He might get fired this year. Also, you still don’t know anything about Chris Beard’s future.

The same thing that made them think Archie should've cut the entire team and magically replace them with 5* and transfers ready for the NBA who miraculously decided to transfer into IU rather than make money....delusion. Never mind getting rid of that many players would cause an APR hit that would make sure we didn't get in any tourney year 2 or rebuilding a roster with 1 senior PG (who wasn't really a PG), 1 senior shooter, and Davis/Morgan the only players with enough size to play in the B10 (with Davis getting hurt). Everything goes as well as possible, and we would have been in the top 4 of the B10. Turns out, not much went well and we were ONE SPOT below where most "experts" picked us to finish in conference. Wow....huge dissapointment for those of us who are remotely realistic.... To be honest, if you'd told me the injury situation, I'd have told you we would be playing on the first day of the B10 tourney and no postseason at all. As is....we are in wait and see until we have a roster capable of regularly scoring. The defense was pretty solid despite size/experience limitations.

Do you remember Shaka was in the same group as Brad Stevens when people were talking about coaches before he got hired at Texas? The press doesn't work well in conferences with good PG's, but I remember plenty on here wanting to bring him on. That said, Texas would be stupid to fire him now. Coaching contracts are designed to last at least 4 years before a buyout becomes reasonable for reasons. It gives the coach time to build a roster, have players who have experience in their system, and to make progress. Archie has made progress in year 2 despite losing his backcourt and 5 scholorship players in his first year......

What you are missing is Ladooga has been stalking him for years and knows exactly what Chris Beard is going to do in life:rolleyes: Also, everybody knows West Texas is one of the hottest places to live now! Right behind L.A.

Let's reverse that ...

I remember. I assumed he would go to Texas and be a stud. Obviously, that isn’t a the case. I’m not sure if he will get fired, but I assume the seat is hot. Texas fired Barnes who won 69% of his games. Shaka is a few games above .500.

Also, I’m sure Texas fans didn’t enjoy watching their former coach almost take Tennessee to the Elite 8 and then follow it up by watching a BIG 12 bottom feeder (coached by a Texas alum) make the Elite 8 for the 2nd year in a row.

Good point, but hey guess what? We are a basketball school and Arch has every advantage. We have not made progress, and improvement looks bleak. Guess what? If so many dumb asses on here didn't extoll the virtues of watching the complete opposite of IU BALL and totally ditch the idiot, long before …. we wouldn't be having this discussion … I'd love to elaborate, but I don't have patience for stupidity, and they don't pay me 3.5 to suck it up on here.

i don't think Glass is looking for a coach at the moment.

i'm not trying to get into the weeds on the details of this because i don't care. but really? oil barons are lining up to keep him in Lubbock??? lol. these billionaires have greener billions than the billions IU's shopping mall billionaires have? i think you're painting with a pretty broad brush. i'd guess most p5 schools have rich donors, no matter how they made their money but we get that "oil guys" adds some swagger. lol

you may know stuff but it sounds more like you want to come off as a guy who knows stuff...

yup, case closed! coaches never ever ever ever have successful runs after a few hiccups their first few years at a new gig.

never EVAR!

and sorry life is so hard for you...
