"We know they like to shoot a lot of threes," Layman said. "That's kind of what their team is made of is shooters. So that's definitely going to be our main focus going in there tomorrow. And then for us on offense, we're just going to try to pound it inside and try to take advantage of those mismatches. I think we will have an advantage when they do go zone [on defense] and I think they'll have a hard time guarding us when they go man too."

I mean if you're playing for a top 20 team who is currently

leading the conference you should probably feel pretty confident. Personally.... not sure what to expect here. Hopefully, Yogi can make life tough for Trimble.

Hmmmm

Sounds like everyone's game plan...it's no secret about our post play or shooting... they are going to be pumped to play in Assembly Hall. Let's hope the Hall can be our equalizer

Re: Hmmmm

Cant believe I am about to say this....I agree Cheyenne! Although I think Maryalnd has more size then we have seen. Hopefully we shoot lights out.

Re: Hmmmm

On paper it looks like a bad matchup for us. However, we all know how much of an advantage the Hall gives IU. I'm guessing we win by a couple.

You hear that?

That's the sound of Troy's sky-high junk thumping you in the face. Welcome to no man's land. Here there be Hoosiers.

my response to Layman

But not every layman can understand. hint: something to do with being dunked on at Assembly Hall. with a touch of old english, for kicks.

They should be.

But IU seems to have a lot of overachievers and hustle guys. This is the first time in a looong time that I usually feel that we will get the 50-50 balls. Hartman, Troy, Nick, Yogi, Emmitt, and Max all strike me as hustle guys, which I love. With Hanner out of the lineup, we seem to have more of that on the floor. No, I'm not trying to take a shot at Hanner, I'm just saying Colin and Emmitt bring more energy and more hustle and a better chance at the 50-50 balls, long rebounds, tips, etc.

Colin and Troy are a great mix when JBJ is hitting threes. I love the fact that Yogi is playing like a pass-first point guard now. I think it improves this team. RJ is settling in nicely and should be comfortable tonight, unlike at Breslin.

I can see why Maryland would be confident, they look better on paper and we obviously have no height. But I think IU is bringing intangibles to the game now. For those that have played, there is nothing like the feeling of beating a more talented team based purely on your team's intangibles...heart, desire, hustle, communication...being a TEAM.

Add in the home court and the fans and this should be a great game!

So wait....

The other team is gonna try to take away our shooters, and then pound it inside on offense??? Ingenious...not sure other teams we've played have thought about that. Thanks Mr. Obvious.

I think this next stretch of games yogi is key, this is the time your

Experienced point guard plays lights out! He's gonna have to make shots for us to have a winning record through the next 4-5 games.

It will also help if Yogi breaks out of his shooting slump

I know Yogi provides much more than scoring .... but it wouldn't hurt if he scored 20 points either. Duh! Right?

Limit turnovers and stay roughly even on rebounds, and I think we win the game.

They Need to Do Exactly What MSU Did

Extend their defense on the perimeter to 3 feet outside the 3 point arc. Have Troy William's defender sag back into the lane to cover the man rolling to the basket on the pick and roll. This will work until Troy shows he's a 3 point threat.

Yogi will show why he is higher on the Wooden Award list than Trimble.

You see, Melo, F comes before T.

A - B - C - D - E - F

Fff-errell.

F - G - H - IJKLMNOPQR - S - T -

Ttt-rimble.

Yogi is always a key to this team, but

The last thing he should be thinking about is his scoring. Hope he continues to play the way he has in the last couple of games and concentrate on being a facilitator for the offensive power we have. Take what's there and do what he has to do. He can put a bunch of points on the board and score but a few himself. When and if the opponent makes the mistake of forgetting about him, Bang!
He has been looking more like a point than he ever has recently. Keep it going. Keep the guys and the ball moving and we get open looks for an outstanding bunch of shooters. Lethal formula for knocking off opponents..

I should've been more clear

We can't have him going 1-9 from the floor during this stretch. His Assist to TO Rate is the best it's ever been here lately but we aren't beating Maryland w him not hitting a high percentage of his shots.

You are correct ...... but

Yogi will continue to shoot about 10 times a game. My point was more in line with rosscoe (the bed-bug sniffing dog?) .... efficiency .... going 1-9 probably won't cut it against MD.

Welcome back from the dark side, Smitty.

Just kidding, just kidding. Go Hoosiers.

Well..

Good for them. Far greater teams have lost in Bloomington to mediocre IU teams. If IU shoots their average and the crowd is into it, I don't see a mighty struggle to win this game.
