Tayven Jackson in portal

Rooted for him in 2023 to be the starter, but Sorsby proved to be better. Cignetti didn't recruit him and he was never going to pick him as a starter.
It's a good move for him. Good luck, Tayven.
Would imagine Cherry or Mendoza will be in the portal soon.

It was reported some teams were paying guys who were portaling to stick around until after the playoffs. Guess we were one of them.

Since he already transferred once does he have to sit out a year?

Plenty of players from the Allen era started and were huge contributors on this team. There was nothing I saw in the Nebraska or Washington game that made me believe TJ was better than Rourke or even capable of consistently leading the offense at a high level. The offense felt very limited while he was starting and relied heavily on the run game which is why I was surprised so many people wanted to see Trayvon get his shot against ND when we needed a strong pass attack to come back. That was one decision of Cigs I don’t question. We were ride or die with Rourke. He gave us the best chance to win.

This is not me hating on TJ at all. I think he needed another offseason of development as you can see he has talent, but he couldn’t execute the offense consistently. Consistency being the key word. There are examples of beautiful plays such as the great TD throw to Saratoga during the NEB game, but there is a reason we didn’t see those types of plays against UW. There’s no way the coaches are going to limit TJ in that game simply because “he is not our guy”. All of these guys are their guys. They had to recruit all of them for retention when they hired in. Tayven was always steadfast in his commitment to Indiana when so many others were jumping in the portal and for that I will always root for him.

Many of the people who wanted TJ to start next year are the “he’s an Indiana kid” crowd, so they want to see an Indiana kid in an Indiana uniform do well. Same syndrome in basketball. TJ is a very good athlete who just happens to play QB. He can do some things but never looks fully comfortable back there. He got buried at Tennessee on the depth chart. He lost the job at IU to Sorsby. Just maybe a fresh start in a G5 team would be the best fit?

WTH? Based on what actual evidence did we pay Tayven to stick around? If you have some evidence I’m ready to see it.
It was widely reported last week. Teams need to keep their depth for playoff runs. Look at the pickle Penn State is in if their QB1 goes down. I don’t know if IU paid him…but I wouldn’t be shocked. I don’t think it was a lie at all.

Widely reported? I saw one person say it on Twitter. I’m asking what evidence you have that Indiana paid Tayven Jackson to not leave before the playoff game.

There’s zero advantage for him to stay past the Purdue game if he’s transferring. Many of his landing spots have already been filled. It would be very detrimental unless he has a Sorsby deal an agent negotiated during the season.

Id be surprised if Cherry or Mendoza portal. Cig has implied they're coming along well.

Tayven doesnt have much choice. And he's got something to market, he'll find a spot.
,
Sure he has a choice, suck up ur guts and beat the new guy out like the old days, but alas it's the cut and run days

Nah, they’re both young.

One will hit the portal eventually. I’d imagine after next year. But I wouldn’t expect it when they would be transferring just to be in the exact position somewhere new.
