Really impressed with Swanigan. Also seems to be good guy and good sport. Hard things to admit as an IU fan, but true. Don't recall, did Crean try to recruit him?

I don't think Crean (first time I haven't called him CTC....YES!!!!)....was recruiting for swanigan as much as he wanted Malik Williams.... swing and a miss on both!!

Imagine McIntosh and Swanigan on this year's team... with a solid Xs and Os coach.

Crean tried to recruit him early, but it was well know that Roosevelt Barnes wasn't interested in Caleb going to Indiana.

Him and Haas are good people, but Haas is a terrible player. 7'2 is the only reason he plays..

Only reason he moved to Indiana was because Barnes courted him to Purdue. IU was never an option.

Or maybe it was his older brother who called up his former Coach (Barnes) and said I just lost my college basketball scholarship due to getting shot as a result of gang violence. I have a 380 lb 8th grade brother that needs to get out of here can you help!? He adopted him.

Swanigan had a hard-on for PU from the instant that Rosie B got physical custody of him.

False. He loved Purdue early on but then was upset when we didn't offer him right away (his freshman year when he was still a work in progress). Luckily he picked us in the end but it wasn't a situation where he was always a sure thing to Purdue. Far from it.

Swanigan initially committed to Michigan State, then changed his mind and enrolled at His guardian/ father''s college, Purdue.

Swanigan is on the record that he wanted to go anywhere but Purdue after Painter failed to offer him after his Frosh year in HS. He wanted to go to Cal with his buddies. Barnes wanted him to go to Purdue (because he could play the 4 primarily and no the 5), and once Barnes told Biggie that Cal was not an option Biggie quickly committed to MSU. Biggie and Barnes were batting heads as Biggie didn't want to end up at Purdue after feeling dissed. The only reason he ends up at Purdue is because Purdue had Hammons and Haas thus locking in the fact that Biggie would have the opportunity to not be playing as a center (which is where he would have played at for Cal or MSU).

This is all about putting Biggie in the best possible spot to get him to the NBA in which he was never going to be a 5. The kid has never been more focused, and yes Barnes deserves credit for helping turn around a 360lb 8th grader and providing the structure and environment that allowed Swanigan to flourish. His growth in 6 years (he reclassified and only played 3 years of HS) from 360lbs to being a NPOY Wooden Award candidate is nothing short of remarkable.

Anyone who could forecasted that when he was an 8th grader and judge that Barnes had any motive other than the kid's best interest is delusional.

Always cracks me up when I read that Swanigan was steered to Purdue because it's where Barnes went. If Barnes was so keen on helping out his alma mater, why didn't his two biological sons (who were both offered scholarships by Purdue) go to Purdue? Can you riddle me that?

Swanigan came to Purdue because it was the best decision from a basketball perspective. We had Hammons and Haas at the 5 which could allow him to enhance his skills at the 4. Neither MSU nor Cal could offer him that luxury.

This. He thought picking MSU would simply be a compromise between Cal and Purdue. He did it without consulting Barnes.

I would hope my son would not do that to me. I had a son who went to PU for a year. My Dad's first question wasn't what is he studying or how are you going to pay for it. It was, "He's not going to be a Purdue fan is he?"

Isn't that a bit silly? Both IU and Purdue are great institutions. If my kid wanted to go to IU, I'd be thrilled.

Swanigan reminds me a good bit of Paul Millsap . . . and that's a compliment. Millsap plays a small 4 in the NBA, plays the 3 with a big lineup on the floor, and can play the 5 when the Hawks play a very small lineup. If he has quiet leadership skills, then the comparison would be even closer.

Swanigan and Purdue are a perfect fit. Crean would have run him into the ground until he was injured. Some guys just need patience and skills coaching. That's not something Crean was capable of offering.

So how did Crean "mishandle" Victor
O when Victor played for IU? Played him too much? Played him too little? Played him at wrong position? Didn't let him shoot enough?

You seem to know everything. You should be an NBA general manager
instead of your job in the produce dept. at Marsh.

Business move...that's all folks! Let's be honest would you go to IU if you were a 4-5? Why not go somewhere and become the primary person? Make sense?1-3 I would go to IU all day under Crean. Haas horrible?? Top 5 most efficient player in the nation.

That's really, really stupid.

Agree. If my kid loved my arch rival and wanted to go there, I'd be thrilled and would support him or her 100%. I had friends in high school who went to IU. They told me their parents wouldn't pay their way at all if they had decided to go to Purdue instead of IU. I simply laughed because that is beyond idiotic. Free if you go to my alma mater but you're paying everything if you pick Purdue lol.
