I expected it with the men, but good grief, think I've seen at least 5 names on the women's side? What gives?
Surprised about all the portal defections on teh women's side.

In her press conference after the South Carolina game, coach was hinting at the likelihood of several vacancies to fill. She said she and her staff have already been working the situation. She also said that with the conference expansion, they need to get more size and more athleticism.
The four that left will be replaced by better players. If they were the best we had for next year, very difficult to compete.
THat Jr class were good role players, but not athletic nor big enough to really win over a USC (either one). Sad to see them go, but to win we need athletes and size. Lilly played hard, she was just pushed around a lot.
Maybe, but they ones that left were light years ahead of the depth staying (not including Shay, Yardon, or Beau as they are not depth--but starters).

Of the players leaving, they'll likely really miss Lexus, even though she still hasn't developed offensively. Lamendola actually regressed this year. Currie-Jelks, she played what, 10 minutes over two seasons?
I think Kaldecova will be a rotation piece next year. I think she's a better athlete than any of the players leaving. She got there late in the preseason. I bet she makes a big jump this year.
There is size and athleticism in the portal. The big girl from Penn State and the girl from Wisconsin and if we're looking for a shooter, the girl at IUPUI.
I honestly think Moren's short bench strategy wears on players not getting minutes. It's got to be tough to play so little after working so hard in practice. Sandvik for 3 yrs and Lamendola for 2 yrs played very little except during Syd's injury. Lexus played a lot but I can't see her leading a top 20 team. She can't dribble with her left.
I don't know what went wrong with Lexus, they should have tackled her crazy free throw shot long before she started playing. I know there are limits in summer interactions but that should have been discussion #1.
I think it was UCLA, maybe USC, Lamandola came in right before half with the other team shooting a free throw. They hit it, she took the ball out and threw it in without looking. A defender stayed back and they scored. She was immediately pulled. I think Moren really tightened the leash on her right then and there. She did not come back in. It isn't surprising though. Going back, Allen clearly expected to start, when Holmes was the clear winner Allen left. Lamandola was higher rated than Beaumont but it seems Beau was going to win the position. I could see she would want to go elsewhere.
I will miss Sandvik, I finally stopped calling her Hannah.

Henna really did a nice job when Parrish was injured. She was a good on ball defender, she was a good rebounder, and her shot was finally dropping.
I think even her best teams lacked athleticism compared to the elite title contenders. I also think she failed to capitalize on the program’s success by improving recruiting and transfers. She can coach but just seeing the recruiting not quite there.
I dont know, she was turning the ball over against SC and was perpetually a non threat as a shooter...kind of like a Leal.
IMO, the end-of-season one-on-one conferences between Coach Moren and the individual players probably played a role in convincing some of the reserves to look elsewhere for playing time.
Like Leal, she played a good role on the team. But she is limited and isn't good enough to start or play much more than she had so far. Maybe Teri told her to go. Maybe she wants to play more. I'd have loved to have her back to fill the same role she'd played the past 3 seasons, but I have a hard time thinking that if she played more than that that ou rseason would be a good one.
There's an opportunity both ways. An opportunity to not adequately replace the talent you had or upgrade on that talent if other schools have more $$$ to lure the types of players needed to upgrade. I'm not sure we have a great picture of what the WBB NIL looks like, but I doubt it's significantly better than our peers, let alone the elites. And nearly no one knows how much schools are going to rev share with WBB. Could we do more with rev share than our peers? Possibly, but to the detriment of FB and MBB.
I'm sure Teri has a way better idea of all of these things than we do, but just because we've opened up a roster to give us an opportunity to get better doesn't automatically mean that's how it will play out. Not to mention, Teri and her standards aren't going to be everyone's cup of tea.
I see the game Watkins was injured in was before 7800 fans. Our draw is really good, I would think that could help. We don't draw like South Carolina, but comparable to almost anyone else at the top
I recall the days we couldn't get a 1000 to pre B10, and 2500 to B10. It has been amazing.
I have no idea where crowd support ranks among free agents. It ranks, but does it move the needle or is just appreciated by those that are here?
Good question. I suspect it is a tie breaker and that is it. Can't really decide, I will play before a huge crowd.
Add in our now consistent record of making at least the field of 32 and I can see why players would consider us. The "blue collar program" thing hurts with some recruits.
Just once I would love to see us with a top 10 player. I think Grace was 33, which as far as I can recall was as high as we have gotten. If she can stick this year in the W and Holmes too, that would be a positive given their ratings neither indicated a WNBA player. Having 2 would be a selling point.
But a large part of Mac I believe was Box. But recruits do not need to know that.
I have felt she leaves starters in too long when we are ahead enough to win. She knows more than I, but the bench needs experience too. It also helps starters have fresher legs in March and avoids injury risk in an already won game.
I don’t know how much any given coach helps develops the various positions. But I completely agree about top high school players. Several teams had freshman not only start but also be high up the stat sheet.
