I think because she really just capitalized on her looks and was never at the top of the rankings. I'll take Maria Sharapova anyday, and she seems to have a cool pesonality from interviews I've seen...

When I was in middle or high school the US Clay Courts were played in Indy and I would go out there all the time because my Mom's company got passes. At the time, Chris Evert's sister was playing and I met her after a practice session. She had a couple points that made quite an impression on a young boy, when they were wrapped in a clingy, sweaty tennis outfit! She even flirted with me a bit, which I'm sure made my racket head larger (Naturally this was in the days when most racket heads were much smaller).

I saw that when I googled her. Sad. Well, she might've gone to her grave knowing she gave a 14yo boy a thrill once upon a time!

Penthouse did a big feature with Kournikova featured on the cover with a nude photo spread that they had obtained from some photographer but it turned out the nudes were of someone else. It was kind of Penthouses last hurrah but it sold a ton of magazines.
