Stop settling for mediocre results

Rick Barnes has pedigree. Look at the players he’s coached and recruited. He had 2 all stars last night. Miller has no pedigree. Y’all remind me of our fan base during billy g’s 2 years, trying to remain positive but in reality you know how terrible of hire it was and how badly he needs to be canned.

I hate to say it, but hes right.

I keep hearing the same thing look at beilens and coach Ks first three years. I don't remember them. I know their records weren't good. But did they atleast have something that resembled a system? Did the players play hard? Because we have neither of those.

Precisely. This is why you have to look past records to make a proper evaluation. And I most certainly do not think that any coach, regardless what happens, should get at least 4 years to prove themselves. Conversely, I'd say that it's entirely possible that a coach deserves that much or longer. It all depends on the particulars -- and every situation is different.

I can't see how anybody wouldn't say that our team badly underachieved this year -- and, by that, I mean taking into account the roster, the injuries, etc. Injuries don't explain repeated, uncorrected mistakes. They don't explain lackluster effort. They don't explain our offense rarely being able to produce a good look.

we get plenty of good looks from 3

It's Barnes fourth year, cupcake. Take a midol ....

after two years his record was 31-35.

Maybe less time whining more time learning.
You’re still making arrogant posts on here after all of your guarantees are crumbled around for feet? Still?!

This is a dumb argument, "Give Miller time because he is stuck with the program that Crean left." That is you on one hand. On the other? "You guys are the same people that ran off Tom Crean, because you were not patient."

Well based on statement number 1 you are welcome for statement number 2. Some of you idiots have the mentality that has infected our football program for 50 years. Carnival Barker Glass and Who Gives A Shit About Sports McRobbie just need to slap the Indiana U. Stamp of Approval on something and many of you will defend it to death.

Fans like you have wasted half of the past 20 years of futility by continuing to support the bullshit that IU rolls out here. Miller should get one more year. One, to prove that he can handle those job. This year has been a traveshamockery of a season. There are H.S. coaches that could have turned in this performance for less than a tenth of what Ryan Miller is paid (he has to earn the nickname back). If it is players not getting it done, they should have been benched 8 games ago. There were moron fans calling out the problem not long after it started and saying guys need to sit. It took losing 10 out of 11 and an absolute lackadaisical performance (and ass beating) at Minnesota for our $3.5 million a year coach and his another $1 million plus team of assistants to figure out we needed a change. Well the unpaid idiots complaining on this board could have told him that 8 damn games ago.

There are people in this fanbase who want to hold the A.D. accountable and then there are the cheerleaders who would eat a shit sandwich if Fred Glass gave it the IU stamp of approval. If you want the poop sandwich that has been Indiana Football to become the Basketball program, get those pom poms out and keep on rah-rah-ing this BS. Pretty soon all the "negative" people will be gone and you can enjoy the futility of the "maybe this year" mentality of the football program, which I wish to God would change, because next year never comes. If you want to actually enjoy IU basketball by watching a program that can win some games, get out of the way and let the people with the pitchforks and torches through.
Post of the year

A10 is no big conference. A10 success might give you a chance to prove it in the big conferences. Not Indiana! Indiana deserves better! There is nothing he did has suggested he is a top rated coach.

More like a realistic patient Indiana fan. I agree 100%. The same crowd who want Archie's head rode Crean out of town. Look at Brelein's first three years and Coach K's. Pretty sure both schools are glad they were patient.

There is only one Coach K. Most coaches who did horrible in their first two seasons fail! If they are not good in their first two, the chance of them becoming coach K is almost zero. And we could all see here. This guy is no Coach K!

BTW, Coach K did ok in his first year at Duke. They were in the NIT which was more respectful in these days. He did not have a Burger All American on his roster and could not make postseason.

I agree. Most coaches should get time to get their players and system. But in some cases. A good AD can see the writing on the wall early. Thats the trust the fan base should have in a high paid AD. The end of every year should be evaluated. And a good AD should be able to see if any progress in culture and a system has been put in, and evolving.

At Dayton, Archie was successful by building a program. Relied on upperclassmen. Relied on guys who have been in the system for 3-5 years.

If hunter were healthy, IU was starting 3 freshman this year.

And you are correct. This is the Big Ten. Arguably one of the best conferences in hoops. Unless we hired Calipari, Self, Izzo, or Coach K, this program wasn’t changing over night. As evidenced elsewhere - it takes time. Couple that with a tough conference most years and a “program coach” - not a legend (yet) and it’s going to take time.

Arch has a plan. He’ll execute. No more over signing. No more running off Matt Roth. No more making up academic fraud on Patterson. No more switching defenses three times in one possession. No more not using out big men north of the elbow. No more schollies for gelon, priller, and April. We have a guy with a plan and knows how to execute.

Unfortunately for fans and everyone - it takes time. Get another good class in here, get Hunter back, only going up starting next year.

I've been waiting all afternoon to post this because I wanted to be 100% sure. I got a text this morning about it and admittedly I thought it was a rumor at first. I've been waiting to make sure its 100% before posting. I can say with 100% confidence that Billy and his wife were in Bloomington this morning. I don't see any scenario where he and his wife come to town and he doesn't take the job. It's happening!!!

Will Wade makes 1 million a year less than Archie and look what he’s done in 2 years. And just knocked off UK on the road. One conference loss this season. But some how IU is still rebuilding and Archie needs to get “his” players. That’s BS. IU has more excuses than any other program...,,rebuilding during Crean and now Miller. Why do other schools not need “rebuild” time. Tennessee, Texas Tech , LSU, Nevada , etc seem to have coaches who are getting it done. With IUs resources , recruiting budget, and facilities , we deserve better. This is Barnes 3rd year and they’re number 1. Fans need to stop making excuses.

Will wade cheats don’t u know that in fact all the schools that win cheat, IU sucks cause they don’t cheat.

Big Big ups championing Will Wade. You and victorbear really know coaching...bump

Haha big 10 teams can’t compete in the sec. SEC is to physical and athletic. If you can score 36 in the big 10 you always have a chance.
Sure! Since we lost by one point to Arkansas on their home court and actually if not for missing a tip in would have won that game we can't compete in the SEC. I do recall knocking off Kentucky and Cal stopped playing us behind some lame excuse.

It is easy to stick with that dogma.

The facts are:

The B1G won the NCAA title in 2000.

The SEC won THREE titles since then.
How many top recruiting classes has Kentucky had under Cal compared to the championships he's won. I think winning one championship with all the top talent he gets is proof that he is a good recruiter and horrible coach.

He’s been to 4 Final Fours. FOUR. In 9 years.

Barnes teams at Texas had some nice seasons at UT but his teams seem like classic underachievers to me.

There was the year they Kevin durant and couldn't even make the Sweet 16. Got blowed out by USC in Round of 32.

then there was the year (09-10) they were 17-0 and were ranked number 1 when conference play started and wound up 24-10 unranked and lost in round 1 of NCAA. They had 2 eventual first round draft picks on that team and also Damian James who flirted with the NBA for a couple of season.

Then they had the Tristan Thompson Team with Cory Joseph and Hamilton back from the previous season in 2010-11. They were pretty good but once again stumbled down the stretch only to get upset by Zona in the round of 32.

His last 7 years, the team was 12 games over .500 in conference play only because the 2010-11 team was 10 games over .500. And as mentioned above they stumbled to finish out the season. This forum would of melted down with those results.

Rick Barnes. meh. Not saying he is a bad coach but there is nothing special about this guy.

Yes based on the talent he brings in and not his coaching. I think there is a lot of coaches that could make a few final fours if they bring in top three classes every year. That doesn’t make them good coaches.
