Im so tired of reading people bashing Steve Alfords supposed lack of defense. Does anyone realize he graduated as the all time steals leader at IU?
Just because Bobby bashed him in the press to push him all the time doesnt mean he was bad defensively,,its the one area he knew he could bitch because Steve was so good at everything..especially offensively
Im sure there will be people that will argue that alot of steals doesnt equal good defense..which would probably make Steve the only player to ever get that label..
Just because a guy is one of the greatest shooters in the history of the game and not terribly athletic ...and white.... doesnt mean he didnt play defense well.
If we had one player with the heart and determination and will to practice and get better like Alford had...we wouldnt have to watch other teams..including women...to watch good basketball

He would also bump into these ridiculous hedgers and go to the line until they quit doing it...
Hedging...how did we ever play defense without popping out and either fouling 30ft away from the basket or chasing behind the play and making our teammates rotate until we gave up a wide open shot?

Knight and Alford were a perfect combination. I don't think Steve sniffs being an AA let alone 2 time anywhere else. Knight ran an offense that totally revolved around Steve and he was absolutely relentless running to get open. Steve ran more in a game moving on offense than this entire team put together in a game. Look at him standing with Knight in a picture just posted in a thread somewhere here. Somehow he is thought of as some wispy little guy. His legs look like tree trunks. Think of the pounding he took in games? We have questions if Morgan is tired? Other than the calendar suspension and the Illinois everyone sit game, did he miss a game?

Yeah...honestly when is the last year IU has had a kid come off a screen and shoot? Just another example of the sorry state that is todays IU basketball
The last game we played ...

Are you really this stupid or are you just repeating terms you heard someone else make but don't really understand?

And again... pure ignorance.

Steve played packline more than once. Anytime the team packed it in and cheated towards the lane.

Watch Indiana @ Michigan 93 for a good example of an RMK packline. Packline is a M2M with players in help position towards the lane.

lmao ... You serial whiners don't have a clue what you're talking about, do you? How can anyone take you seriously....

So, you're stupid and emotionally biased. .

Good to know .

We run screens all over the court not just on PnR. But that doesn't fit your complaining motive you so just use hyperbole and present as fact.

Why can’t we run an offense that revolves around Romeo? Was Alford better than Romeo? Seriously

Why does McRoberts shoot 3s, he should be out there screening his ass of for Romeo, they don’t even get Romeo open 8 foot jumpers, NEVER.

Yes a lot better BASKETBALL player because he knew how to play without the ball and he could shoot the ball. There is a difference from being a great player to be very athletically gifted.

Some of these guys think it's still 1987 and want a motion offense even though they have no clue what that really means either.

We should run screens for Romeo, but honestly? Steve was a much better college player than at least what Romeo has shown. Different players. Steve was almost automatic on wide open shots . Only had the 3 his sr yr . Steve wide open for 3 was more reliable than a Romeo free throw. Romeo has way more talent and physical ability. The difference is he was able to just dominate in HS because of his size without much effort. Part of it is the offense but Romeo just doesnt seem to play all that hard. I am not trying to be down on him but some comparisons in HS . I don't even know how his team did in the tournament last yr , quit paying attention when it went to class . Damon Bailey who he overtook for scoring single handedly won the finals his Sr yr , 3 Final fours as well. I remember as my former school was who he beat . Alford's Sr yr he scored I think 38 in the morning and 57 in the night game they lost. Thats 95 points in 64 minutes in one day and not like Steve just took it to the basket on his own every time. It is the perceived lack of effort and the whole team playing that way . I still think part of the team problem is the OAD , not saying Romeo is a bad guy or even doing anything persay, but just the whole aura all this brings and seeing what is happening makes one wonder?

I would assume pick and roll although my internet abbreviation skills arent that great...and I prefer bud...is this the tmp dudes 2nd account or what? And does anyone like this guy or is he just bitter because we are playing so bad?

Actually it was 57 in the afternoon game to beat Broad Ripple and lost the night game against Connersville.

What is that stupid symbol you have by your name. Is that some devil owl you’re pretty cool dude. I’m too old to figure out how to do that.

I still would rather see an offense base on moving the ball with passes and player movement than what college basketball has become today with all the dribbling. watch a lot of the 81 tournament run and all the teams than once in the half court which made for a way better game to watch. They actually took open shots and did not have to force up a lot of shots because of the shot clock running down. It was not like they were holding the ball but took the first really good shot if that was in 5 seconds or 50.

It’s pretty obvious Archie doesn’t run an offense. They scored 6 points with 5 minutes to go in first half a against Nebraska, only scored 46 against Michigan, no point arguing with mr know it all.

I have good news for you...Damon is still the all time leading scorer in Indiana HS history, Romeo isn't even 2nd...hell, Romeo isn't even third.

There's a reason professional coaches do what they do. The least efficient play in basketball is the post up the most efficient is a PnR that ends with a corner jumper. In previous eras, with different less athletic personnel and different rules that was opposite. Look at those 81 games and then now and watch how far the defense has extended and far far they can extend. Many players now can guard twice the area of players from 81.

Different game.

These coaches aren't just ignorant fans who pick offenses and defenses because they "like" them or some other superficial reason, it's because they are more effective and efficient. And it doesn't matter what system they run, what matters is how well they run them. There's no +5 magic wands ..

The games changes constantly.. get used to it... and keep up.

You're obviously too dumb to talk to ..

Nail on head. Knights defense was very much very similar to the pack line. Help defense. Takes time to learn position man to man. If done right it’s Very stingy.

Really! When was the last time this team did a screen the techniqually wasn’t a moving screen where the player put up the shot. I think the best screen I seen from Indiana this year is the one Morgan put on the kid on the other end of the floor about sixty feet from the basket.

Run into the hedgers at an angle so they are moving and go to the foul line all night long.

Yet scoring and shooting percentages are down even though they have the shot clock and the 3 pointer compared to that time

i know what it means and i still want one. i have never downloaded an app either. these things happen when you get old
