Anything official for CDD staff? I feel bad for Hulls. He gave up a pro career oversees to be an assistant at IU. He stated when he was first hired that this wasn't a job he was seeking out but when IU called he couldn't pass up the opportunity.

I think Jordy will be retained. DeVries had a very large staff at WVU. Woody had a large staff too, and we will probably make it larger, creating a GM position.
Woody’s staff included like 6 highly compensated “advisors.” Only one of them sat on the bench and I never saw him utter any advice at all. Why is everyone here worried about Hulls? Doesn’t Calbert deserve some love?

Internet says Tom Ostrom and Kory Barnett have contracts at WVU through April 30th

In both of Calbert's stints at IU, I noticed the players really listened to him. Players would come up to Calbert in the pregame shoot around one at a time and talk with him. They really paid attention to what he was telling them.It is what I looked for at every game. Tucker said he came to IU because of Calbert. I am not sure the reason, but maybe he thought Calbert could help him develop his game as they were similar in size, style, and position.

I vote Calbert stays and maybe Walsh.

I'd like to see Calbert and Hulls stick around in some capacity but I think you only get 3 true Assistant Coaches...and the new guy shouldn't be forced to retain anyone, in my opinion.

If Walsh had any serious input as a full time Assistant this past season I can't see any reason to keep him...

Whoever ran our Portal recruiting is probably the one guy who Needs to be retained in some capacity (maybe Asst. GM)...

The day to day, on the floor, staff just didn't appear to get the job done... Whether that was All on Woody or not is tough to ascertain from the cheap seats of my TV screen angles...

Should be interesting to see who's on campus April 2nd.

Why would we retain the guy running our portal recruiting? Portal recruiting has been our main problem the last couple years.

Nice observation. I did not watch this year so I do not know. Woodson needs no more money but I suspect Hulls and Colbert do.

Its easy to get sentimental about former players...even those who are still officially connected to the university. But really, this coach needs to be able to establish the cullture from top to bottom. Not the identity...but the culture.

What became of Dane Fife? He is the only one who made a real effort to become a college coach. I’ll include Mike Woodson in that group too.

I'd say Coaching has been our main problem the last couple of years...

I meant (in regard to whoever is running the Portal recruiting) that whoever it is, they seem to have nationwide solid contacts...

Woodson made the final decision as to Who we ended up with and How they where coached...

Having 3 “yes” men and the sleepy Armond Hill next to him, was part of Woody’s undoing. How much successful “coaching up” of the players, or X and O’ing these 4 did seems to be minimal based on results. It seems not a coincidence that Matta and Fife, with lots of successful college and Big 10 experience and (presumably ideas the HC wasn’t keen on) were gone after one year.

Calbert made some nice coin in the NBA. I doubt he is hurting.
Calbert's wife at one time had a really nice job with a TV network. From what I know about Calbert, he has been able to pick the jobs he wanted and those good for his family. Calbert would have had the UE job when McCarty was hired if he had wanted it He was interviewed twice. before McCarty was brought in. I question if he wants to be a head coach. Could be he likes working with the players and less with running a program.

FWIW, I hired a cousin of Calbert and learned a lot. Important that his cousin is a hard worker and well liked. Calbert is the only left handed member of the family that his cousin knows of, This cousin grew up in NC before later moving to Indiana and is actually a UNC fan. Calbert had a cousin (brother of my worker) that was 6'-9 and played for NC State.

Regardless, UE really botched the hiring of McCarty. Should have taken CC

McCarty went up in flames, but it’s hard to blame the university for the mistakes of a grown man. From a basketball standpoint, he had them as relevant as they have been in 20 years.

Tom Ostrom can move to Rhode Island please. Farther away from Indiana and I don't have any sisters so I don't have to worry about him being close to home.

Calbert being loved by the players was mentioned a surprising amount of time both in speculation of IU bringing him on and then after he was hired. I'd really like if he stayed at least in some capacity, especially if we open up a "front office". Walsh I'm bearish on but if he was the guy recruiting Indiana (which I think so if I remember the Sisley and Mullins recruiting stories) then I'd like to keep him around at least until DeVries and co. can get their feet under them for recruiting in state.

Portal ranks the past 2 seasons were #2 and #15. Ballo, Rice, Goode, Carlyle is a great transfer portal, it's the shit coaching that was the issue. And, yes, I will defend each of those four and think if the latter 3 stick around with DeVries they'll be more productive.

They were thought of highly by the experts, but not a well constructed team. Coaching was obviously an issue too.

Wasn't there a report at one time mid year that Ya and Woodson got into a yelling match with Ya telling him basically this is why your being fired??? Think I remember hearing that, if so, would not call Ya a yes man

CC is my favorite IU player but he needs to go as well. One we need a clean slate and 2 , his defense of Woodson disqualifies him.

I think the portal addressed what was needed though. A ball handler (Rice), another big (Ballo), and 3 point shooters (Goode, Carlyle). Ballo was the only questionable fit but no way Woodson was turning down the #2 transfer. If Carlyle matches last seasons 32% and Rice can slide into what pre-injury XJ was, they both look a lot better. It's a travesty we had to watch this team coached by the previous coaching regime.
