First of all, some quick observations about some of the skill guys that just signed.
I love the quickness of Mack and his ability to cut and run his patterns. I don't know much about the comp, .but he's fast, can get in and out of breaks and catches it. BIG TIME POTENTIAL. With a lot of TALLER guys, they sometimes have difficulty getting in and out of their cuts and can't separate from the secondary. This is not a problem with Kaysir.
Kiante Enis. Very fast, fluid, and runs with vision and movement. IU has only had a couple of guys in my lifetime who had the type of speed to separate that Kiante has. None of them had his size. Enis's presence means it's possible that Camion Patrick stays at wide receiver and gives IU a lot more potent attack on the perimeter.
Shawn Bonner... Blew me away on film. How in the Wide World of Sports he didn't have more offers eludes me. BIG, PHYSICAL BLOCKER and HANDS. I would think he might have a shot to play.
Tyler Natee... A WHOMPER. Dainty feet in traffic. Balance, power. A kind of kid that might be terrific inside the tackles and scare the heck out of DB's on the stretch play. The kind of kid you let run by you so you don't have to take him on head up. I can see him on the goal line as an RB or as an H back on boot action in the flat. With corners going: &&^%%.
Richard Lagow... Tall, lanky, cannon arm. Delivery looks a bit elongated to me and will need to be tightened up or DB's will break early. Tricky mobility. Can chuck it a long way.
Peyton Ramsey... Could really use a redshirt yr to get over 200 lbs and gain some arm strength. The kind of dual threat kid that can really use this offense. Effective runner. Quick release on the pass and seems to have touch. Just could use a bit more velocity in the ball that weight training and a redshirt can bring.
Really like his potential.
Cole Gest. Man is he fun. He reminds me of Iowa's great kick returner and receiver Tim Dwight. A little like former Boiler Vinnie Sutherland too. Except he is the kind of kid that can take the kind of hole IU's line makes for Devine Redding and ZIP... Break it. Not a joker. But can cut at full speed much like Tevin. Fluid through the hips and cutting without slowing down. Will have to learn patience, setting up cuts and changing speeds. But once he sees that gap.... POW!!
Phil Benker/Johan Morris.. Tall, fluid and good quickness. Seems to possess good hands. Physical and long arms. They will have a big catch radius and be good around the end zone. Good athletes both. Morris reminds me of Westbrook.
Ian Thomas. Tallish and physical TE. Good blocker and versatile in the pass game. Not quite as nimble at double moves as Bonner, but a valuable addition.
So that's it... Can't wait till spring.
