tonight, will be having the 1st homegrown tomatoes of the season. Nothing better than a BLT with a fresh tomato from the garden. All other vegetables from the garden are cheaper and just as good to buy from the grocery. but not a tomato totally different produce than the crap you buy at Meijers

You bastard.

A BLT with a fresh garden tomato is one of the great pleasures of life.

You’re a bastard because now I’ll be hungry for the rest of the day.

I stopped off for a ribeye cheesesteak on the way back from Home Depot. A BLT is a minor leaguer in comparison.

I never got large tomatoes, small chopped ones for salads, cooking tomatoes, etc . My dad grew these huge nasty looking things I hated as a kid maybe that is the reason?

"Sonny, true love is the greatest thing, in the world-except for a nice MLT – mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe. They’re so perky, I love that."

The difference between home grown vs. store bought is enormous.

I grew up on a farm with fresh tomatoes all summer. Then I wondered why, when I grew up, tomatoes suddenly all tasted lke crap. It's because they were store-bought, had been picked green and ripened on trucks coming from CA or FL, and all the sugars are different vs. when ripened on the vine

Strawberries are similarly 10x better fresh and picked ripe off the vine.

All true. Spent so much of my summers on Grandparents farm and nothing was better than when Grandma told me to go down to the field and pick some sweet corn for "supper" and cooked it about an hour later. Sweetness cannot be matched.

I just can't do tomatoes from a taste and texture perspective.

I've always found that main stream berries (Strawberries, Blueberries, Raspberries and Blackberries) as much better (sweeter, juicier) if they are homegrown (or locally farm grown). We go picking annually for several and always find those batches to be the best we have all year.

I don’t like tomatoes either. I’m a texture person yes: strawberries, blueberries no: raspberries and blackberries. Too many seeds.

Some giant heirloom types. German queens are my favorite. I slice them up with some fresh mozzarella. I have some almost ready.
