So what happens when

The only two teams Indiana lost to are playing for the National Championship?
It means we had a pretty good year but fell short of the tippy top of college football. If we expect to compete with them regularly, we know what needs done.

We aren't going to get an apology from the talking heads that dogged us after the Notre Dame game. You might as well forget that. Those that have a social media presence have been hounded about that take over the past few weeks and they are either silent to that criticism or have doubled down. As Tammany says above, just win next year.

Well they will say we got trounce by the only 2 good teams we played with the rest of the wins being th result of a soft schedule

pretty good?
IUCrazy2 gets my vote for understatement of the year, albeit less than 3 days old. He must be young, not one of us long time sufferers of 2-4 win seasons poorly executed in futility.

IU - 11-1
PU - 1-11

There's just something warm and fuzzy about the poetic symmetry of these contrasting regular season records IU fans will always remember, capped off with a 66-0 drubbing of our arch-rivals.

I’ve been saying the same,if we could win 10 games next year which is possible,I think the Saban’s and Finebaum’s will tone down their BS.
👆This 100%

We were the CFB darlings (to a lesser extent) during the Covid season, only to crap ourselves the next season.

We have too good of coaching for that to happen again, but history unfortunately IS on the naysayers side.

It all depends. If the SEC gets 9 preseason ranked teams to the B1G's 4-5, then the same rhetoric will come shining through our TV's every Saturday. As long as the B1G gets their fair shake in the preseason, thereby making our wins "good" wins instead of just beating bad teams, then I agree.

They’d have to, with Iowa, Oregon, and Penn St. on the road, plus Illinois and Wisconsin at home, the schedule is decidedly much harder. A 10 win season next year at least puts us in the conversation for making the CFP again.

Even if IU were to go undefeated next year, the SEC mouthpieces and a lot of other so-called football experts, will be citing the losses at Notre Dame and at Ohio State as proof IU didn't belong in the CFP -- and never will. Despite those losses looking a lot like Georgia's loss to Notre Dame yesterday, IU's season is now pegged as a fluke.

We won’t play all of them, of course, but let me just rattle off the Big Ten teams that will be ranked in the preseason:

Ohio State
Penn State
Oregon
Indiana
Michigan
Illinois
Possibly Iowa
Possibly Minnesota
Possibly Nebraska

I think having Oregon and Penn State both on the road does immediately elevate the schedule.

But its not like heading in to this season, anyone KNEW our schedule was going to be sketchy. Obviously first because no one knew how good we were going to be, so it didn't really matter. But we had OSU on the road. The defending natty game teams both at home. NW on the road, who was coming off a bowl season. A west coast trip to UCLA. Nebraska, who had a ton of hype with Rhule and Raiola.

That's my fear. I expect Michigan and Illinois to possibly get the nod over us. The only publication I have seen had us at 24, those 6 B1G teams in and SEC again getting 9 teams in. We'll see if that holds true after the off-season but if history has taught us anything...

I think most of the talking heads are getting skewered right now for their rush to judgement. I know Herbstreit and Saban are, for sure. IU will be back in the playoff if they go 11-1 again, I'm sure.

PSU has two possible white out home games. One vs Oregon at the end of September and one vs. IU in early November. Other than that they have Neb and NW at home?

I would like to think so, considering that would mean we got a road win vs Oregon or PSU.
Its unlikely, but what if Oregon doesn't land Ewers or any other good QB, takes a step back, and has a Michigan/Washington like season next year? And Iowa is their same 7-5/8-4 self, and neither of them are ranked when IU beats them. Then IU loses at PSU in a white out game? We didn't have any road wins like those would be this year, to be fair. So maybe projecting those unlikely negative things isn't necessary. If our Washington and Michigan wins this year had been on the road, maybe there would have been less questioning?

100%!!! SEC teams like Missouri gets ranked and stays ranked simply because they are SEC. Hell, Vandy will be ranked ahead of IU next year to start

Brother, do you even realize there are fans out here who started a serious sleeping disorder wondering what this team could do? We lay awake every night until Saturday mentally deciding we we could possibly beat that week’s opponent. It wasn’t until we completely hammered half our schedule before I really started believing what we were watching was real. Hell, I didn’t drink after walking into the stadium most of the year because I thought I was hallucinating or something.

Next year is a crucial year for Cig and company to completely flip the narrative. Most half-way sober “journalists” are capable of understanding the age of NIL and Portal have changed the landscape of college football. SEC has no more advantage. Now everyone can pay players.
