F everyone who supports fascist takeovers of my alma mater. I’m out until sanity triumphs.

GOP is the anti-big-government party, my ass.

Not a f-ing dime. And zero support from here forth.
Do you like how the board has handle itself the last 20 years. ? It ain't the same IU we went to ... that being said if we could elect a board that could reign in the BS

Only 3 board members are/were alumni elected. So if you have been unhappy the last 20 years, look to governor appointments.

The ACLU has filed suit. Since Indiana and only Indiana is mentioned in this law they believe it violates the law by targeting a single entity.

1) Great article representing both sides - not.

2) When you use silly terms like fascist, you auto lose any argument in my book. Be a grown up and have a discussion.

3) Somehow I think IU will survive without you.

What was the rationale for total, government, partisan control of the school? Upending a system of shared governance that’s been in place for over 130 years?

It was crammed into a late-night spending bill. so who pushed for this? Was it ever debated? If fascism is too scary a word, how about power-hungry, big government, assholism.

How about you go research the answers to your questions before posting. Use that IU education to learn why the mive is being made instead of going off on a message board. Seems like a logical thing to do.

How would you say it is different that the IU a you went to? What BS exactly would you like to reign in? And how are you familiar with what’s going on in the classrooms at IU?

So do you actually think this is fair that IU a is being targeted?

Braun specifically said that not enough alumni voted. 20,000 voted in the last election. I don't think Purdue lists vote totals, so it is hard to know if they have a hundred or a hundred thousand vote.

In 2023, the state sent $623 million to IU, while donations to IU were $339 million. It doesn't seem crazy to give them 3 of the 9 trustees. It seems to fit exactly with the amounts given.

On your final “point,” got it, but painting the institution as a right-wing (particularly this current right-wing), partisan-controlled org is just a massive turnoff to the vast majority of educators, parents, students… if that isn't obvious… well, enjoy IU’s plummet down the school rankings. My Instagram blew-up with people PISSED about this.

Also, before anyone assumes I’m a leftist and that somehow matters here. I’m not. This just reeks of an opportunistic power grab by some politicians seeking to wield influence and gather donations. My alma mater be dammed.

20,000 opinions is too little. So one is just right. Uh-huh.

Why weren't you angry about IU's previous "plummet down the school rankings?"

It's not a a highly rated school at this point anyway.

It's far more liberal from an administrative standpoint point.
I have 2 children there now. Both are transferring... can't stand the liberal BS , the anti-Semitic protests etc. and we're Catholic
The classrooms. Not hard to audit one ... went to one my daughters Sociology classes. Prof went on a DEI rant for 30 minutes. I finally had to tap out ... so did half the class. Many more where that came from ..

Thank you for the information. I still don't know why Braun and the Pubs did this. I mean, not enough voters seems like a silly reason to me. And honestly, I don't really care too much either way.

Not sure of your point. Personally, I don't care about the issue. But if I did, like the OP does, I would research the topic from BOTH perspectives before starting a thread. And I would not have called Braun a fascist, especially when the law didn't apply to ANY other public university. Wouldn't a true fascist have the law apply to ALL public schools, and not just one?

Rumor on campus is that IU lobbied for it but didn't want to take the blame. There are complaints from some alum that they will not donate. It will be interesting to see if that is very many, or if it makes a difference.

Lol. So how do you know it’s more liberal than it used to be? I’m glad they are transferring, it sounds like it’s not for them. I’m sure you just happened to sit in on a sociology class when the professor just happened to go on a DEI rant. A private religious school is probably best for them. As far as an administrative point, you couldn’t be more wrong. Whitten is likley the most conservative President we’ve ever had.

I don’t know anything about this sociology prof but some of these instructors are worthless. Combine that with the cost of an education and the requirement to take some of these basic courses in order to obtain a degree….and it pisses some parents and students off.

How do you know that? I’m just curious. As in every profession, I’m sure there are some that are better or worse than others, but we have some world class professors. I go to Mini Universoty every year and I’m alsways impressed with the breadth and background of the professors teaching,

Most of my and my son’s issues with profs have been in the low level courses that do not pertain to your major. You are satisfying a requirement in order to obtain a degree. Then you have an overweight slob that wants to sit around a talk about Pokémon instead of teaching. This shit ain’t free for some of us. All questions were answered by a TA. It’s ridiculous

Yeah I’d imagine most of the really bad ones are in the lower level classes.
