Working weekends and evenings isn’t referring to time in the actual school building or classroom. That’s time spent grading papers, grading assignments, getting assignments ready, getting the lessons ready, all of it home…do you think teachers do all that shit between 7a-3:30p?
You guys crack me up with the tough job and underpaid talk. Join the Navy for a 24/7/365 job and spend 4 to 6 years on a warship (enlisted) or 3 as an officer, followed by a second ship. Stand “6 on, 6 off” (port and stbd) watches while at sea (12 hours every 24 hours) and do your normal job between watches along with chow, maybe a workout, and some sleep. That’s life in the Navy and junior enlisted and officers aren’t getting a teacher’s salary for it. That comes years down the road, so to speak.
When I retired from the Navy I told friends, “I retired from the Navy and now I work part time . . . 40 hours a week.” It’s humorous because it’s true - except I actually work more and they only pay me for 40. It’s OK, they pay me well, and it’s still way easier than any of my six ship tours.

I don’t understand the second part of the question, but I graduated IU in ‘83 at the tender age of 21. I don’t like to say my age - makes me feel old!

Start showing a little bit more respect to the top 5% that pay for those Navy salaries and that Warship.

Nah. I have 2 law enforcement siblings and an 8 year marine, 23 year retired coast guard commander father.
I respect what you do but I won’t pray at the alter of person just because they served. I know better than that.
My family complain about their tax rates, and I never miss a chance to remind them of their pension and government salary.

I don’t do much distance running anymore. I’m good for a 5-6 mile run once every week or two. Other than that, I just do a mile or two on the track after a lift.
I hated Cross Country, but I was good. Running sucks, talk about will power and pain tolerance though. More so than any other sport I can think of outside of combat sports.
