So beard is a no

We are always ranked - I just don’t get the Stevens obsession - it’s just not gonna happen. I hope you get a good coach but it’s not gonna be him

So you honestly think Stevens who is with the world champs in the NBA is gonna come back to revive the IU program? Why exactly?
I don't think he will...

I KNOW he considered it as recently as 4 years ago...

And I KNOW he's publicly talked about coaching at IU in the past...

The rest of it is conjecture, obviously. I think its no less likely than getting some unknown 7-4 gangly monster from Canada, him developing into a generational talent, and NCAA officials never adjusting and calling games he's in according to the rules of college basketball.

So as I understand it you don’t think Steven’s will be named interim coach and on the bench for Michigan. Is that right?

All good points except about Edey - are they allowing him to get double doubles in the NBA because he’s not following their rules also?

I guess my point is why would a guy on the top of the NBA come back to deal with rebuilding the IU program? Maybe to show how great he is? Ok that’s a possibility but seems like a stretch

One thing I would point out is did he develop into a generational talent on his own or due to the coaching staff? Smith - an undersized guard also developing into a first team all american? I don’t think it’s a coincidence

No one thinks it will happen, but there is a case to be made. Stevens definitely has a sweet gig and makes a ton of money and roots firmly planted in the northeast now, but just like any driven person who is looking for a new challenge, the IU job could be enticing.

Don't really care what he's doing in the NBA. He committed, on average, 10+ offensive fouls a game between illegal screens and post moves. And many more "over the back", or going through legal rebounding position defenders, to get rebounds. Now, he also had to play through a lot of no call contact himself, no question about that. But there is ZERO question NCAA, and especially B10, officials chose to swallow their whistles rather than call the fouls, that happened on nearly every possession. And that became an insurmountable advantage over most teams.

And when Painter realized the refs weren't gonna call much of it, he smartly doubled down on running basically every single set through Edey...either with the elbow areas ball screens, or plays to get him the ball in the post. The illegal screens were the ones that bothered me more than anything else. He would set his feet wider than his body, and lean in on those ball handoffs. And I can remember maybe 1 of them being called on him his entire career. When pretty much all of them were illegal.

I know it sounds like bellyaching. But it did provide an unfair competitive advantage. And it allowed Edey to put up the video game numbers that he did.

Yeah it is bellyaching - if you can do it and it’s not called why wouldn’t you - come on

Edey is not close to a generational talent. He's servicible in the NBA but often a defensive liability in matchups. He has only 7 double doubles. Ware is much better NBA prospect than Edey. He didn't start getting significant minutes until recently and already has 5 double doubles if that is measure of anything. In the last 10 games Ware is playing 30 minutes per game for 13 ppg and 9 rpg while hitting 38+ percent from 3.

Definition of generational talent. Wemby is only 7'3" though and from France not Canada. He was ROY and averaged a double double with 20 points per game and 10 rebounds per game in 70 games and was a 1st Team All NBA defensive player. He'll probably be 1st Team All NBA soon and be there every year.

It seems to me that many of the hardcore Woody supporters are also Beard haters. Very strange group.

there are no woody supporters.

why are the beard lovers our biggest most vocal "big foot" haters? could be some correlation there too. lol

Brad Stevens hasn't coached college basketball in ten years. That would concern me, I do know that he and Dolson are friends and talk regularly. I would value Brad's input on coaching candidates.

I would be happy if we narrowed our search to a coach first name Chris in the state of Mississippi.

Stevens is NOT coming. Stop the nonsense. He had his chance years ago. He’s making millions behind a desk nowadays.

I agree.

But the folks saying he and his wife have moved on from living in the state, are missing that they have family here and a place on Wawasee

BS is a self proclaimed Mass-hole and he & his wife have become pseudo-royalty (in their own minds at least) there in Baaa-s-tonn...

The wife's Not interested in returning to Green Acres... She made that very clear the first time around (and it sure looks like she wears the pants in the family)...

Moving on from the Brad Stevens fantasy is probably best for all concerned at this end... The closest we'll ever get him to being seriously involved with our basketball program is if our highly esteemed poster with the same "handle" buys season tickets...

Here's a wild..., outa tha boxx concept:
how about we target a young, upcoming, coach who is all about disciplined play, with high character players who consistently play hard nosed, great Defense...; while also showing he's willing to run an offensive style that fits the skills of the players he has on hand and has a consistent pattern of winning everywhere he's been and would actually appreciate the opportunity he's been given here...? ? ?

Just a thought... 😎

I seem to recall something similar to that approach working somewhere but it was so long ago I can't quite recall where it was... 🙄

🍺🏀🍺
That might have the unintended benefit of solving a huge problem for more than a year or two. Best to go with somebody very close to retirement so we can revisit this shit show over and over and over again.😉
