So at the end of the spring practices …

Longman may be the guy to help up and down the line … seeking a starting tackle will depend on Bostads assessment of Sales #77.
He's gonna have to make a quantum leap from last Fall to be the answer at Left Tackle...

That said... if anybody can light a fire under him, break his bad habits and allow him to reach his potential and beyond it, it would be Bostad...

I'm not one of the negative Nellies who revels in our struggles just to be able to say "I told you so"... I'm just pointing out the raw material Bostad has to work with...

I'm high on his abilities but realistic as to his starting point...

We have to replace 1,400 snaps at the tackle position from 2022. Haggard looked to be a very good pass blocker but an average run blocker. Hannah looked to be slightly below average at run blocking but a well below average pass blocker. With Bedford coming back...that gives us back about 900 of the 1,400 snaps (all higher quality). Sales actually graded higher at both run blocking and pass blocking than Hannah.

To the point on Longman...he graded higher than any tackle we had on the roster last season, for both run and pass blocking. Should be that way given he competed in the ATL10. But when you dig in a little, it looks promising...he did play Texas A&M last season and graded a 74.6 in his pass blocking but a slightly below average 52.2 run blocking. Similar trend vs Tulane...who proved to be a good team.

Now you add in the natural progression of getting a year bigger, stronger, better and a new Coach that we all seem to be optimistic about...I think we take a decent step forward with this group. I also feel good about both guards. Not sure what to think about center yet.

The attendance difference is a statement on how awful the mentality of IU fans is, not on the quality of the teams. Absolutely perfect weather, events planned to cater to kids and free food, and appalling attendance. Why would IU want to put the spring game on TV and advertise such a humiliating atmosphere?

Imagine Assembly Hall being that empty for Hoosier Hysteria, regardless of the status of the team.
You can't, because IU fans have their sports priorities completely and utterly backwards.
Attendance at actual Spring games, when we had them, was decent and growing before Allen put a stop to them.

And there were no gimmicks - just an actual Spring game.

not at IU he didn't.
From a facilities standpoint, ours were easily some of the worst in the Big 10. Corso knew it. Wyche knew it. Cam knew it, DiNardo knew it, Hep wouldn’t take the job until he was satisfied that things would change. Even now, with all that’s been done, we have to keep going if we want to just be in the top ten of the BiG. But Mal had little to work with during his tenure.

CBM dealt with high school facilities along with all of the other detriments that we all are aware of - as each year passes my appreciation for what he accomplished increases
This is a gross overstatement but they did need work as did Ill, Purdue, wis, and others.

What a long long way we have come. Much of it thanks to Fred.

You're so negative why don't you just leave this site.
As with all things in life, there must be balance. My role is to play devil’s advocate here. Believe it or not, I was once a sunshine pumper for IU football. But then saw the reality of the situation at IU. When the sports administration is not invested in the sport, content being the conference punching bag as long as it just collects the check, fans and alums should be angry.

Fans may be angry at the wrong entity, as all of IU seems to be inbred to accept staying in the IU family. We see it with so many of the hires for coaches as IU likes to just promote assistants to HC.

I hope this team of players and coaches can turn the program back around this season. I do worry about getting the "right" fit when going after players limits IUFB too much. But that idea of the "right" fit describes IU overall.

Yes you were. You used to fling shit at me for talking reality.

But you've taken it way to far the other way. It gets old.

Sales was who I have/had doubts about (at either T position)...

Hearing about the concerns at Center is very worrisome... Thought we had that spot covered...
