Crean's focus seems to be more on individual skills development, strength, and conditioning rather than team development. Similar to an all-star travel team or AAU Team coach than a coach of a 5 time NCAA Champion university in arguably the #1 Basketball state in the country. I have experienced coaching on both travel teams and high school teams and the focus is different. Travel teams bring in kids from rival schools and teams and work on strength and skill development and exposure to college and possibly to pro scouts. High School teams are focused more on winning as a team, where the offseason skills development is more on the individual player to be hungry enough to put in the time in the offseason to individually improve and now the HS coach uses these players current individual skillset to the benefit of the team. A college coach is a combination of the two, but a strong emphasis must be placed on Team Success. Woring and preparing the team in team offense, team defense, last second and situational offense and defense preperation, out of bounds plays, Half court offense, pressure defense, fundamentals, spacing, not playing loose and thus creating unforced turnovers, competing hard on both ends of the floor. Knowing how to make the smart play when it's winning time. Being prepared, focused, and confident in yourself, and in your team to be successful.
