I wonder if the whole NBA experience is wearing thin? Would the family rather be raising their kids in Indiana? After making millions $ he should now be financially set. He can continue to make millions $ in Indiana, and have both sides of the family close, and raise their kids in Indiana. Some things in life have no price tag.

Boy, that didn't take long.

Or, and just hear me out...
This season has whetted his competitive instincts to win at the highest level, with a storied and legendary program, and he is looking forward to a non-recruitment centered vacation with his family to recharge before he begins again in a vibrant city that offers his family almost limitless opportunities for enrichment.

Nah, he's ready to concede defeat, because that's what high level coaches do when offered the dream job of a lifetime, especially when they are at the brink of taking the next step. He's ready to come back to Indiana, convince the PTB to fire CAM over the summer, and begin a career at the level he already rose above.

Would you rather live in Boston or Indiana?
To me that is a no brainer. I lived in a big city once, it is not for me. I would definitely rather raise my kids in Indiana than in Boston. Money and fame is not everything in life. If you would ask me if I would rather be a movie star making millions and living in California or being a farmer in Indiana, I would choose farmer. I am not a fan of either coast or big cities. I can relate to John Mellencamp songs, "I was born in a small town...." I would make money, be financially set for life, and then get out of there, and move back home to Indiana so I can have the best of both worlds, wealthy, living close to family, become a legend in my home state, and have job security for the rest of my life. And still make millions. Oh and if he achieves RMK like success, be in the Basketball HOF. That goal is more likely achievable in Indiana than in Boston.

Great question.

And I wonder if Kate Upton, having made her millions, is ready to settle down with a "regular guy" like me and get out of the rat race that is being a super model? I think she'd really like life down here in the Carolinas. Not sure which is more likely, but yes, they are both fun to daydream about... at least for me! You can daydream about Brad, and I'll daydream about Kate, and that's where they are both likely to stay.

It's offseason.
Time to dream big.
Rather than complain about not getting recruits who have one eye on the NBA and one eye on a coach who will showcase them for NBA scouts. If NBA coaching was so attractive why is Penny in Memphis recruiting kids with one singular dream, to make the NBA $$$? Successful college coaches are more long term stable than the Larry Brown-like coaching turnstile that is the NBA coaching profession. Eventually, I see Brad back coaching college basketball rather than on the sidelines with the NBA Timberwolves. And I would rather get him at IU before Duke.

Are you dreaming about her in her current post childbirth form or pre pregnancy form? A lot more woman there to dream about right now.

I have a strong suspicion that Brad and you differ in many different areas.

And again, this is only relevant, if we're after YOU to Coach our team (I believe you had a similar thread about TW or LQ, and why you'd rather play at IU and be a local folk-hero than at Memphis or wherever). The thing is, what's important to you isn't applicable to others... otherwise wherever you live would have a population greater than NYC, right?

I've pointed out on here many times, from folks directly in the coaching biz, that "most" coaches find the NBA lifestyle preferable to having to chase recruits and all their hangers on, and deal with the arcane and far-reaching NCAA regs, and alumni, worse travel, etc.... They get to focus only on bball, and as much as they want... not hamstrung by NCAA rules on how much time they can spend with their players, keeping grades up, etc... These are folks actually "in the biz", not theorizing about how they might feel if they were a top recruit or coach. And, guess what? To a lot of young urban kids raised in cities, Btown feels like farm town to them. They feel uncomfortable and out of their comfort zone in Btown and often prefer an urban school. How you feel is not really applicable or relevant, unless we are after you as a recruit or coach. And, btw, I feel the same as you (because we're both probably middle class white guys who grew up in IN), but that's not relevant either.

Stay clear of Justin Verlander unless you want to be drilled with a heater .....

Is he wanting to come back to Butler or the Pacers?

substitute the name you wish. It doesn't matter, and each is as likely as the other.

6 years, W-L record of 270-222 (.549), no NBA Finals appearances. Maybe he is just a better college coach than pro coach.

Brad to Duke.

If he ever were to go back to college, I think that is the most likely destination. Then UNC. And, I don't think he's going back to college. If Boston were to cut him loose, I think there'd be a bidding war for him.

Why would he want to coach at a place with fans that want to fire a good coach before he had a chance to bring in his second recruiting class?

If he has made that much money, why would he need to work?

has he said that? not that i doubt it. i would bet all coaches hate kissing ass of teenagers that is the essence of recruiting
He had on a home on wawasee told a friend of mine who lived next to him he disliked recruiting. That made it easier for him to go to the NBA. But he loves the lifestyle in Indiana.

good...

Because the ones who know they can be and already have been GREAT don’t consider or worry themselves w guys that are just good
They might not worry about guys that are "just good". But WHY would anyone - let alone Donovan or Stevens - aspire to be coach at a place where someone who is considered "just good" isn't allowed ample time to establish their system?

Some on here wanted to fire Archie after this past season. Are you kidding me - after TWO YEARS?? After only 1 of his OWN recruited class of players? Archie will get at least 3, likely 4 years. As he should. If he fails, then it's on him.

I've asked this question for two months now and no one can answer it: What team with the roster and injuries we had this year made the NCAA tournament? Come back and see us when you can answer that question.

Shows that many coaches never get much better...No upward movement headed into year 3 is a little scary...

So you show us a link that says the AVERAGE tenure of fired coaches is 6.9 years - and Archie can't even get three? Jesus Christ . . .

No upward movement? You do realize that - even with the 12 of 13 stretch - both the offense and defense were better in year 2? Even with all the injuries. You do realize that, right?

Nope - showed you a post that giving a failing coach after 3 years...another 3-4 years...is ignorant.

IU's had 5 coaches since 2000, and you're advocating for a 6th.

That's not a turnstile, that's a particle accelerator.

Thats dumb...Sampson and Dakich dont really count.
Knight, Davis(I guess you count), Crean....thats it.
And now advocating for keeping Archie while he fails to keep some sort of coach/yr average at a # that seems better in your mind...

Winning seems better and keeps the coach/yr average down.

This notion that IU fires coaches quickly is complete nonsense. Archie will get 5 or 6 years. Just like the previous coaches did for the past 50 years (Sampson was fired for being a cheater).
