Tony A. Was a guest on assembly call last night. He said a stat that made me puke. IU is in the 98th percentile for taking shots 3 feet inside of the three point line. That shot is the worst possible shot to take in college bball and we do it more than 98% of the teams. Now realize we are a horrid shooting team. Let that sink in.

We run actions for Gunn coming off screens to take that shot. I’ve seen it out of inbounds multiple times. So we game plan for a shitty shooter to take a difficult shot, that is the worst shot in the game analytics wise. Dumbasses.

Sitting dudes with 2 fouls for the half is essentially fouling them out in the 1st half. WTF good does it do to make sure they don’t get their third foul if the game is fuxking over when they go back in?? Oh and Mack finished with 2 fouls…. Dumbasses.

Too much talent for this shit showing. I place it squarely on Mikey W. If we miss the tournament I for sure will want him gone. This shit is pathetic.

Only way we get in is if we win the BIG tourney. We are just a bad team this year

I'd warn you to prepare for the imminent anal rape from the sunshine crowd, but they are mysteriously absent today.

As I said, I absolutely dread another coaching change. We have a horrible track record. And even the threat of a hot-seat coach, even the rumors...it kills recruiting...which may have started already after last night. Can't imagine Queen and crew watching last night and thinking "hell yeah, I want to be part of that".

Always hope for a big bounce-back game after a shitfest like last night. But when the next chance is playing in Kohl Center against Bucky.....history is not on our side. Best hope, IMHO is to at least show well in Madison, then come back and win at home vs UI. That will at least right the ship a little. Lose the next two, I think season is officially shot in the head and things start getting ugly.

We put a lot of hopes on X's shoulders for this season. That's looking like a big swing and miss. I was really pulling for him this season. Just can't seem to get his head right. The X of late 2021-2022 was what we needed and that's starting to look like a fluke period in his career. Or maybe, TJD's presence really did make everyone else look a little better than they were. Including CMW.

That math you offered- the shots just inside the 3 pt line....amazing all the data that is tracked. But yeah, that one is incriminating. Certain recipe for struggle vs average teams and doom vs good teams. Which is exactly what we've got this year.

The sum is certainly not greater than the parts with this team. There has to be something going on behind the scenes. This isn’t the NBA and how a coach manages a group of individuals that may have conflicting interests is important. Especially in the age of NIL.

It’s not as simple as having your boosters roll out wheelbarrows of cash, and just getting a collection of high paid players. The parts need to work together. I’m not sure that’s the philosophy of our coach.

This is the most accurate, spot on, nailed it post you have ever made. Woody isn't coming close to getting the most out of this team. Nothing more to add.

I’m in the sunshine crowd, and still here. What we are seeing is the effects of Woodson’s biggest, and maybe only, mistake at IU and that is Xavier Johnson. Woodson has brought in talent and develops his players, but we are out a starting point guard because Xavier is a bonehead. Not only is our starter not producing, we don’t have a five star developing behind him. Now the season is on Woodson to make lemonade.

Sitting guys in the first half means you don't trust them. If a guy has two fouls and knows a third will get him benched and then only give him two fouls in the second half then he should know that you don't get hood winked and foul somebody.

They use an app called Synergy? Bloom has talked about it. But, Woody doesn’t need it or believe it when presented with the data.

The two fouls philosophy is the one that has me so frustrated today. I understand pulling a guy with 2 fouls in the first half, but waiting until you get down 15 points to go back to them is completely pointless. By the way, Ware and Mgbako finished with 5 combined fouls. Good thing they were rotting on the bench the entire first half........

Even if they fouled out, you give yourself a chance. You can’t sit two of your three best players for 12 minutes against the best team in the country. You force the refs to foul them out in a hostile environment. Which I promise they would not want to do.

Yeah, head scratcher. One of Woody’s many weird habits that will never go away. Don’t question him about it though. It’s the players not being tough, remember?

he brought them back at about the 2 min mark when we down 20.

Yeah, I've always thought it was somewhat silly depending on time and place. Up 10, or a lesser player or position of depth? OK, sit them. But you can't sit crucial guys and watch the game get away from you with them on the bench. Take them out for a blow and rest, explain what you need them to do, and then get them back in the game. The bottom line is to foul out, you're going to have to get at least 3 fouls in a half, so why not make it the first half when you still have a chance?

I've thought this for several games now, and that was before last night and Rutgers. I think the Sleepers guys said before MN that according to Kenpom, we'd only be expected to win 2 more conference games, and we beat MN, so I think it was 1 more for the rest of the season. Not a fact, but that's a lot of statistics against you.

Please bring im Chris Beard. The hel what the wussy admins think. He is the guy to get it done. Phuc Ole Miss. They dont deserve that royalty. IU DOES!

Yep. Most action he uses is through Trey. If you limit his options with MM and ware sitting this is what you get. Once MM went to the bench option one and 2(for this game) it was over. The 3 option sets they ran was working other than missing wide open shots.

Don’t disagree, but even if there wasn’t a coach developing players shouldn’t they be getting better by default? Practicing against P5 talent every single day and not improving?

Cupps is getting better, even hit a couple of shots last night, but Banks and Gunn are not improving. Why not?

The Oladipo stories are legendary but he improved with personal drive, pushing himself and he was a 3-star at best coming in.

We only have Ware, Mgbako, Galloway, and Reneau who are actually B10 worthy type players. In time, Capps can become a decent PG, but I’m losing hope that Banks and Gunn are worthy of this league. The future is not bright and this season is quickly hurling towards disaster, especially with our next two games being at Wisconsin and Illinois. .

Not sure I’m going to watch either one of those. Teams are always after us, but now the wolves are licking their lips

It is easy to see, I called both Archie and Crean firings. If the mob wants you gone, you are gone. If we miss the tourney, the mob will want blood.

As I have stated, Dolson needs the "Why don't you retire and rest that back" talk with him.
IMO, everyone saves face.

Agree that trying to Gunn an open 18 footer while on the go may not be the best out-of-bounds play. Then he makes it worse by shooting regardless of whether he is open or not.

And I really think Woody would step down on his own if we miss the tourney. He isn’t going to like the hate that has never been spewed his way before.

It is fun and games when you get to tell Fatjohns in pressers I don’t need to answer that, or act like you are above answering questions. When people in the stands are telling you to kick rocks and the questions become factual statements, will humble him real quick.

Health thing seems like a win win to me for woody to walk.

Let me ask you this:

1.. Do you see how many shot fakes Purdue's guards and forwards, employ?

2. Do you see how few shot fakes our players use?

3. Do see see our players, including 5th year Galloway, routinely fly past the shot faker?

4. What excuses are there for this other than crappy coaching?

As of now, I see no possible way to come close to making the tourney, we're not winning the Big 10 tourney, so we'll be out unless something miraculous happens with this team. This teams problems, roster construction, shooting, coaching etc have been analyzed ad nauseum here and are all evident. My biggest disappointment is on defense. I really thought this team could be hell on other teams defensively. Not the case at all. Ugh.

Good point. I think that's why they finished with two fouls. No use to incur the crowd's wrath when the game was already decided.

But....there's no way they finish the 1st half with 2 fouls. While the game was undecided we weren't going to get any calls and Edey wasn't going to get into foul trouble.

From a Purdue fan, so take it for what its worth: IU cannot be seen pushing Woodson out or outright firing him at this time. There are far too many bad optics to it:

3 black coaches fired in 5 years or less
A fan base so impatient even a beloved returning player who came to coach is run out after 3 years
unreasonable expectations from the fans... "EVERY year should be 24 wins and top 10 ranking" No coach can live up to that.

ND was happy their winningest football coach ever left for LSU, until everyone they called up to offer the job laughed in their face. Whether Freeman survives or fails, he was not on their short list for the job when they started the hiring process and hiring an unproven assistant is not the kind of home run hire their fans envisioned. IU if they run Woodson before 5 years could find themselves in the same boat where quality coaches feel like its a no win situation going to IU and they are far better off staying put even if they make a couple million less than IU is willing to pile up on them. If they win a title, "its a good start but RMK won 3 so don't let up". Don't take a job where you are competing with a ghost, one of the first rules in coaching.

A lot of BS in this post. Nobody laughed at ND, Who cares if the coach is black, yellow, red. The guy can’t coach. Period

At least the previous hires made a little sense. Woodson’s hire continues to mystify. His press conferences actually capture how he continues to second-guess his in-game decision making. It’s all just completely odd. He’s definitely out of touch and his mediocre NBA coaching career might be better served leading the Indiana Mad Ants. Give Woodson and this staff Purdue’s roster and they’d have 5-6 losses. Conversely, Painter and his crew would have IU ranked in the top 5. Purdue’s second best scorer was dismal and the Boilers scored 87.

The guard play for IU is the weak link not the coach. X is completely off the rails trying to get back to game speed and forcing plays like he did when he first got to IU. Cupps looks like the long term PG for the team but is learning as a Frosh. Galloway is good but struggles to shoot with any kind of consistency. Caleb Love would look pretty solid on this team this year. Woody should of put a full court press on getting him.

Chris Beard would be awesome coach at IU.
