Shame on Bishop Budde for preaching the Gospel and quoting the Bible!

Not according to Congressman Mike Collins it isn't. He suggested she be deported for what she said.
congressmen (and women) are also free to say stupid things

it happens all the time

The Bishop had the right to preach what she preached. I might argue like the preacher at my uncle’s funeral, there’s a time and place for everything.
If she really believes her message of mercy and compassion (I have no reason to think she doesn't), then it was exactly the right time and place. When would she get another chance to speak directly to Trump, who has direct say in how the people she mentioned will be treated?

I respectfullydisagree, imo it wasn’t the time and place.

I didn’t hear anything about her compassion for unborn living children.

Whenever someone makes A point or stance, they have to run down the list of everything they believe in? Since she didn't bring up abortion, her message was somehow invalidated? Because it made Trump - and presumably you - uncomfortable she should stick to only the Christian messages you agree with?

She didn’t make me uncomfortable at all. I despise any preacher that does what she did. I despise money hungry TV ministers. I despise race baiting pimp preachers like Sharpton. I didn’t like some of what Graham said at the inauguration.

I am curious what some of our more conservative churches have for The Beatitudes.

Merciful, meek, and peacemakers are blessed in The Bible we use. She was literally asking for mercy so I'm unsure where she fails. Somewhere there must be Bibles that say, "Blessed are the merciful who show mercy only to those who live life exactly as they would."
Spot on. The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12) include, "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy."

This MAGA wailing and gnashing of teeth after Budde's sermon reminds me of the observations of Russell Moore, former leader of the Southern Baptist Convention, in 2023:

"Multiple pastors tell me, essentially, the same story about quoting the Sermon on the Mount, parenthetically, in their preaching—'turn the other cheek'—[and] to have someone come up after to say, 'Where did you get those liberal talking points?'" Moore said.

"When the pastor would say, 'I'm literally quoting Jesus Christ' ... The response would be, 'Yes, but that doesn't work anymore. That's weak."

"When we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we're in a crisis."

Isn't that wild? Christians rebuking Jesus' teachings. Who would have thought.

That said, it smooths out the rationale for the t-shirts with Jesus' head photoshopped on Rambo's body riding shotgun with Trump on the back of bald eagle with a shit ton of guns.

The words in the Beatitudes speak for themselves.
I know I've posted this quote from Kurt Vonnegut before and probably will again whenever this topic comes up. It's certainly apt here:

“For some reason, the most vocal Christians among us never mention the Beatitudes (Matthew 5). But, often with tears in their eyes, they demand that the Ten Commandments be posted in public buildings. And of course, that's Moses, not Jesus. I haven't heard one of them demand that the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, be posted anywhere. 'Blessed are the merciful' in a courtroom? 'Blessed are the peacemakers' in the Pentagon? Give me a break!”

I don’t get the hatred on here for Van. I’ve not once read a post from him throwing personal insults at anyone.
That reflects hatred? Give me a break.

Sorry, but when someone holds himself out as a clergyman, his words are going to be scrutinized more closely. And Van drops the ball (and punts) again and again.

Can you imagine what this thread would have been like if Trump would have had an epiphany, stood up, and said he had seen the light, thanked her, and stated that he would try to do better in the future?

Talk about heads exploding.

You can't do better when you're already the best. You can't have an epiphany when you already know everything.

When I want a fair analysis of Christian doctrine, I always look to a post-modernist, atheist.

Those that cite scripture to argue for evil (like open borders and transitioning children) are using the lords name in vain.

Trump isn’t the greatest bestest ever. I hate his bombastic attitude and the same speeches over and over.

I like many of his policies compared to what Harris’s would have been.

I wish he would quietly do the job.

I don't think he's saying you think he is the "greatest, bestest". I think he means that Trump thinks he's the "greatest, bestest".

I guess I don’t see Van being a holier than thou poster. Seems like he gives his views respectfully. Why can’t those that disagree, post their differences without hateful bitter personal responses?

I've read through two of her public interviews. Mostly milquetoast, as you'd assume. She is pro-abortion. I've seen nothing from her which is a deviation from liberal orthodoxy. Basically an empty robe.

I would assume she makes a pretty generous salary. How many homeless individuals or illegal migrants does she shelter in her home? What sacrifices has she made? I think she is essentially a poser.

Don't mischaracterize what I posted. "Don't hold your breath" is hardly "hateful" and "bitter."

The kicker for me was a long thread a while back that was littered with hateful, anti-semitic, Holocaust-denying, pro-Nazi filth. Van participated extensively in the thread and never called out the poster or challenged a single one of his posts. When I brought that to Van's attention, he claimed he hadn't seen those posts, and then continued to ignore them. In my opinion, that's inexcusable for someone who claims to be a Christian pastor.

Well if that what he meant, he’s right. And for the record I don’t think he is. And I don’t think some self righteous political preacher needed to preach the sermon she did yesterday. I don’t remember the exact words but Graham said a few things at the inauguration that made me wince at the time.

IMHO All politicians should do there worshipping discretely.

They should use Jimmy Carter as a model.

Only disagreement an old now deceased partner and I had was over religion. He wanted to put a fish symbol on our Office Sign. I said no. Told him anyone who has to tell you they’re a Christian will most likely screw you the first chance they get. I pointed to one of our office staff and said “that women hasn’t once preached at me, but her actions show she’s a Christian”. He was offended but no fish went on our sign and we were good.

I think it’s more than fair to point it out to Van.

A long time ago, around these parts, I noticed an item called the Christian Yellow Pages or something like that) in a few waiting rooms. Heck, may have had a couple delivered to the house through the years.
I tried to avoid the businesses within like the plague.
