Scott Drew to Kentucky

It’s amazing our fans are still leading the conference in attendance and showing up big at neutral games like NYC and ATL. They also donate millions. IU is lucky.
Yeah it is stunnning really. I guess maybe the newer fans have never seen success so they don know any better.

How do you figure? The policy of not even interviewing anyone with positive connections to RMK.
Hiring Sampson, who was/is among the best coaches in the country, is an indication we wanted the best.*

*Assuming, wrongly, that he wasn’t so stupid as to violate what he was on probation for.

Nor have UK fans cried and moaned to hire a legacy as their coach.

I think our fans can claim some responsibility for the constant whining of hiring a legacy that lead to us ending up with Woody. Because no other program in the country would have hired him based on his credentials (and that's not a shot at him...he was 'successful' in the NBA for a long time).
The fans didn't hire him

I still don’t understand why people think Jay Wright is coming out of retirement when he loved the school he was at and was loved by the fans there. What on earth makes you think he’s going to come back and go to a school like Kentucky? Or Indiana? Or any other school not named Villanova?
Do you doubt that at one point Roy Williams loved Kansas; he said so and spurned UNC the first time? Sometimes things change, and sometimes people do things because it's too good an opportunity to pass up. If he wanted to get back into coaching and UK wanted him, I'd guess they'd probably come close to doubling any offer Villanova could/would make and I have no idea if they'd be looking for a coach. I just threw a name out there and I'd be shocked if someone representing UK didn't at least inquire if Jay Wright might be interested in hearing from them.

Just curious. It’s interesting to see the contrast between the younger fans and us old timers who were able to experience the true brilliance of RMK.
Not endorsing it but when we played football in the 80s, water was a reward and putting your
hands on a kid was routine (if it wasn't a foot on your behind, slap on the head, etc.) as a coaching tactic. We also consistently won and racked up state championships into the 90s--which probably reinforced it. As much as I'd probably not go for the hands on throat today, I don't think Reed was gasping for air or anoxic for goodness sake.

Knight's motivational tactics worked within a particular culture timeframe. He still had great game knowledge that probably continued to evolve but he was never going to recruit a group of high caliber athletes necessary to apply it effectively simply based on his methods and reputation as the culture pendulum swung the opposite direction.

Like it or not, whatever Hurley is doing is pretty damn effective and he's getting good enough talent to reload and execute.

Many of the big names are signaling that they aren't interested. If true, I could see Bruce Pearl coming to Lexington in a heartbeat and think he would be fairly well received by BBN.

I don't like Scott Drew, so he's a good fit in my book. But UK isn't going to win at the level Calipari did. The guy had a royal flush in recruiting about 4 times in the first 7 years.
