He has made the best college football coach hire, maybe ever. Our program sucked. Worst in the Big Ten, by far. We’re 11-1 and in the playoffs. The future looks bright, but even if we end up coming back to earth and make an average bowl half the time, it’s still maybe the biggest success story in college football history.
Scott Dolson also apparently tried to unload Mike Woodson in favor of Bruce Pearl last year. All coach Pearl has done since we foolishly stuck with Woodson is lose a key player to the transfer portal, proceed to kick ass anyway, and have the second ranked team in the country. Just imagine what could, and should, be happening at IU right now under coach Pearl.
The trustees and their money people allegedly blocked Scott Dolson and responded by buying a team they thought even coach Woodson couldn’t screw up. They were clearly wrong. This team is going to finish in the middle or bottom of the conference, again, and miss the tournament, again. I know I’m not alone in being sick and tired of having to endure another one of these “dead man walking” seasons.
I have a limited number of seasons left to experience, as we all do. We all look forward to another IU basketball season. I see well run programs anticipating the need for change and letting coaches go before they completely suck. Isn’t that why the persons in charge are so well compensated? Isn’t that what Scott Dolson tried to do? IU repeatedly waits until every rational thinking person knows the coach is bad, and then adds a mandatory extra terrible wasted year. That’s where we are now. We have already had to suffer through these bizzaro anti-victory lap seasons with coaches Davis, Crean, and Miller. Apparently at least two of them were good hardworking guys who had previously won championships, such that you might want to give one last chance. None of those justifications appear to apply to the current coach.
Whoever is stopping Scott Dolson from doing exactly what he wants to do regarding this basketball program needs to sit down and shut up. Frankly, if I was Scott Dolson I’d insist upon just that, effective immediately. If the trustees, or whoever is pulling the strings, don’t give Scott Dolson carte blanche, he should start looking for a school not run by complete idiots. I’d imagine Scott Dolson would be a hot commodity as an AD right now.
I’m sorry for the rant, but the prospect of another 3 1/2 months of crappy underachieving basketball, followed by a coaching change supervised by the same dysfunctional cabal is totally unacceptable. Scott Dolson has offered the first ray of hope that we are not doomed to be ruled by chronic dumbassery in decades. I want him in charge. I want to take action to make that happen. I want to contribute money to whatever NIL makes that happen. Who’s with me?
