Indiana strikes out 14 in 3-2 win

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.
-- Christopher Lowe's first career at bat for Indiana is one he'll never forget.

Pinch-hitting in the seventh inning, Lowe crushed an RBI single to right field to drive Austin Cangelosi home from third in what was ultimately the game-winning run for the Hoosiers.

Caleb Baragar struck out nine batters in his first career start and Indiana recorded 10 hits for the sixth time in seven games as IU earned its fourth consecutive win Saturday afternoon, topping St. Joseph's, 3-2, at North Charlotte Regional Park.

SJU's second error was a costly one, allowing Cangelosi to reach second base on a throw from the mound to first. Will Nolden's sacrifice fly put Cangelosi in prime position to score the winning run.

The Hoosiers, winners of five of six overall, took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning. Ricky Alfonso, who singled earlier in the inning.

Baragar's nine strikeouts were the most by an IU pitcher this season as the team totaled 14, also the most in 2015 for the Hoosiers. Baragar pitched five scoreless innings, giving up just two hits.

Ryan Halstead also gave Indiana two solid innings of work, allowing zero runs on one hit and striking out a season-high three batters.

Indiana concludes play at the Snowbird Baseball Classic on Sunday, March 8, at 10 a.m. ET vs. in-state rival Ball State.
