Any chance we could buyout a cupcake game next season and replace with a competitive power 5 game - even if it is a road game? I know schdules are baked, but wondering if this is possible. Give one of the cupcakes $1 million buyout to not play us and replace with another competitive team looking to do the same thing.

If Cig keeps this rolling next season we are going to hear a lot about our schedule again, maybe even moreso next season. We have 2-3 tough B10 road games, but if we want to be the next "super power" to quote Cig - we need to find a way to upgrade the schedule and play a meaningful early season game.

I hope not. IU played both CFP finalists and OSU this year. Who cares what SEC fans say about the schedule?

Nope. Put yourself in position to be debated. For all the frustration that has come from listening to people across ESPN debate the merits of IU’s season, we have had all that airtime discussing our team. Stack wins, get the publicity, use what will likely be a lesser season to continue to build momentum, and God willing we put the committee in a tough spot. Nobody is talking about Notre Dame’s schedule because they have been there before. Let’s just keep getting there and make it less of a jolt to see us in the conversation.

Next year we could have the toughest schedule in the nation. We honestly won't know until the games play out. I don't think we need to try and find ways to make it harder considering we already play more conference games than the SEC.

We've been through this multiple times... If you look around our schedule is similar to most other teams... Alabama just played Mercer in November for gosh sakes...

We've finally begun to schedule like the big boys and the results are tangible... Why screw things up?

We're going to have a relatively new team next Fall, having replaced key players at several positions... Giving them a full three games to gell as a real TEAM before they have to take on the Big Ten schedule is a smart move... Doing anything else is foolish in the extreme, in my opinion...

In 2024 we played both of the teams in the previous season’s championship game. It was not predictable that Wash and UMich would have relatively, for them, down years.
We also played Ohio State, so three big deal games. UCLA and Mich State had worse years than normal for them, again not predictable in advance.
I think sometimes schedules can break in good, bad, odd, or unexpected ways. We sort of had that this past season.

Not interested. No need.

Getting out is much easier than finding a quality replacement.

Nah... 9 B10 games is more than difficult enough a schedule, for Indiana, for the foreseeable future. Let Coach Cig put together 3-4 teams in a row that win 8+ games, and then start thinking about adding a more difficult OOC game.
If we remember that is why UK dropped us from the football schedule because the SEC was going to 8 conference games. When Bama is playing Mercer in November and Georgia is playing UMASS in November ... stick with what we have. That is a change for me because I have never liked the "3 money games guaranteed wins" theory but playing now 9 B1G games, those non conference games are legit scheduling.

We all remember the old days of the Big 10 with only 10 teams .... non conference use to be teams like Colorado, Utah, Oregon State, USC, Nebraska, LSU, Arizona ... on and on and on ...

Let the SEC fans whine every year as IU continues to win.

The answer is for the B10, and other conferences, to beat the SEC teams in the CFP. Michigan did that last year. Hopefully the 4 B10 teams all fare well in the CFP (hopefully they don't play each other!)... That will do more than anything to shut the Finebaum's of the world up for a while. IU, for sure, doesn't need to feel any pressure to make their OOC more difficult though. We'll have 2 road games next year against CFP teams, and another against a higher level bowl team. Even if any/all of those teams fall off next year like Mich and Wash did this year...who cares? That's not IU's fault, and we can't ever plan for that to happen.
