As much as I love Rourke and what he has done this year for IU football it is hard to argue against Hunter. He is a generational talent. Even at QB I am not sure I would take him over Ward if I was being completely subjective and not giving in to my bias. However, I think Rourke can be in the conversation if he finishes a perfect regular season.

Rourke made the mailed out ballots as a finalist ,,, IU fans can stuff as much as they want …

BSU’s Jeanty is the projected winner.

I have seen Cam Ward play in person and a number of times on tv. He is talented, but I believe he is overrated. If you keep him in the pocket and make him throw the football I don't think he can beat you. I was in Gainesville for the 1st game. He missed so many receivers that were wide open. I see him as a little more polished Anthony Richardson. I don't think he is able to read defenses. That could change in time. Also his receivers especially Xavier Restrepo saved him a bunch of times.

ARE was the best FB player in the country both his Jr and Sr seasons and finished sixth his Sr year.

NO player with Indiana on the jersey is going to win the HT

You still think that after this year? I agree Antwaan was very good and probably deserved more consideration, but our teams were horrible back then. Couldn’t even make a bowl game. I don’t think I have ever seen a HT winner from a losing team. Now that IU is playing good football I have no doubt we will at some point have a player in serious consideration. Mike Penix was close last year. I realize it was as a UW player, but they had a really good season. So, I don’t think they discriminate against the brand as much as they do our record. If we won 10 or more games I bet he would have easily been a top choice for it.

That is my point, ARE was the best FB player in the country his Jr and Sr years but was not going to get serious consideration wearing an IU jersey. Now...if IU continues to be an 8 win team and has another top player...we may get one.

This kind of peaves me that they decide who the Heisman is before the season is even over! Rourke already out of the top final considerations! What if he goes off and dominates the CFP?
The line has always been that is unfair to those who don't play extra games. I don't agree with it but that's what is said.

I think most likely is they always did it after the regular season, before every team made one of the hundred bowls, and the old Heisman group isn't about to change.

Hornung was the only Heisman recipient in college football history to win the award on a losing team. Hornung’s Fighting Irish went just 2-8 in 1956, but his 1,337 total yards of offense (420 rushing and 917 passing) was good for second in the nation and enough to bring home the hardware.
