"Jenny said when she was just about 5 years old
"You know, my parents are gonna be the death of us all
Two TV sets and two Cadillac cars
Well, you know, ain't gonna help me at all, not just a tiny bit"
Then one fine morning, she turns on a New York station
She doesn't believe what she hears at all
Ooh, she started dancin' to that fine, fine music
You know, her life was saved by rock and roll, yeah, rock and roll"
Couldn't find an actual video of Manassas performing this. But this performance by Stills in '79 with the amazing Bonnie Bramlett on backing vocals is a nice substitute...
"Lookout mama
Its comin' to you
I can't tell you
What you gonna do
Rock and roll crazies
Get you right down
Make you feel so tough
Your feet leave the ground
Lookout mama don't you
Go too far
Don't you get hung up
Bein' no rock and roll
Star"
It's amazing what a simple youtube search can turn up. This is brilliant and bizarre at the same time, as Stills seems completely taken off guard and maybe even pissed. Crosby and Nash know the lyrics and knew that Neil was going to launch into it, but I think Stephen was completely unaware... I was actually completely unaware they had ever played it myself, till it popped up in my search results just now... Anyway- enjoy...
It still amazes me that this is a "debut" album and he was only 24 yrs old...And I was a junior in High School
"Oh people, look among you
It's there your hope must lie
There's a sea bird above you
Gliding in one place like Jesus in the sky
We all must do the best we can
And then hang on to that Gospel plow
When my life is over, I'm going
To stand before the Father
But the sisters of the sun are going
To rock me on the water now
Rock me on the water
Sister will you soothe my fevered brow
Rock me on the water, maybe I'll remember
Maybe I'll remember how"
