He passed away at age 83. His lifetime ban from baseball and also being denied a spot in the HOF has been controversial for years.

Admired him as a player. Hated him for what he did. Hated him even more for how he represented himself in the aftermath.
I don't think I've seen another player since him that had his hitting abilities and bat control. He could spray the ball anywhere, and all of these shifts they do nowadays would have been a joke to him. He was inducted in the Reds' Hall of Fame.
 
He wss scheduled to speak at Elkhart's Lerner Theater recently, but then it was canceled with no explanation. His health worsening must have been the reason.

Eh, he's probably not in my top ten hitters in my lifetime. His volume of hits was obviously the best, but TOnyn Gwynn 100x out of 100 over PEte Rose.
