I just read about this and am pretty shocked. I had seen a couple of videos of appearances he made on tv, and he was looking a little rough around the edges. But nothing that led me to believe he was this ill. Loved him on SNL...

There’s a great New Yorker Magazine article called My Greatest Gig. It’s about the time he performed for a hospital for the criminally insane. Unfortunately, (as far as I know) you can’t read it unless you’re a subscriber. But the best quote is:

Norm was so fearless with where he would go with a joke.......he had one podcast where he talked about the safety record of 911 Airlines, and walking through the ashes of 9/11 trying to find his brother..........crazy stuff.
