This was my third ship, an LST, and we beached the ship and took aboard survivors via the bow ramp and had a reception for them on the flight deck. I was Officer of the Deck on the bridge for the beaching and for the entire reception keeping the ship perpendicular to the beach. I have a large picture of Mount Suribachi hanging on my home office wall. I took the picture from the port bridgewing.
