In my opinion the only recent major loss was Jo Jo Johnson, CB, who seemed solid when he played as a backup... He couldn't break into the starting rotation though so while it's tough to see him go, we might just be able to use that open scholarship on a position of greater need...

I had high hopes for Sneed at DT but he never contributed with any consistency so we hopefully will be able to bring in an upgrade at his slot or, once again, use that open scholarship for a position of greater need...

I trust this staff to make good to great personnel decisions...

We did a very good job retaining players in this winter portal. We had a lot of guys that had a very good years and I am sure a lot of big programs were poking around and tampering thinking they could poach from a smaller program. There is still the spring portal, but so far pretty good.

I would add that overall depth is an issue. There is more of a drop off from 1 to our 2 and 3 team guys than an OSU, Bama, etc.

Yes, this has always been the case. It was not as bad last year as, for example the first OL that went down didn’t seem to hurt too much but the second hurt much more. RB and WR and even QB were good. We had pretty good back up on the DL and LB but needed more at safety. There are still some concerns but I’m not sure we can do too much for backups in the portal. I think that needs to be addressed with better recruiting and development over a longer time.

One incoming HS recruit that may see significant PT is 4* safety, Byron Balwin, who was heavily recruited by the majors. Byron will play in the 2025 Under Amour All- American game next Thursday, Jan.2nd. He ultimately committed to the Hoosiers in his own words "you can see the coaching works. It's not just that they have the best players & all that. They are really developing them & teaching the kids"

I see where Jimmori is from Alexandria Virginia. Not sure if was recruited by CCC or not. It also says he went JUCO. Does that new rule apply to him for eligibility? Sounds like he would be one and done though since they believe NFL is in his future. Needs to put a few pounds on though (IMO).

Jared Dawson looks to be a RS-JR so could plug position for 2 years.

I hope we get them.

For instance, Tyler Morris had offers from Notre Dame, Penn. St., Tenn., Florida, & Colorado & chose Indiana. Says a lot about Coach Cignetti's program & coaches.

Yeah, I figured that was a foregone conclusion the Benson coming back. 4 year starter wasn’t coming to be in a dog fight for regular minutes. I’m sure there was a lot of internal debate on this one, so I trust the Benson signing.

Yes the post Christmas FB transfer portal declarations are quite the haul

… I look for Bostad’s OL to be a Joe Moore finalist in 2025 too.

… They’ll get IU an RB on the all BiG 10 lists (in preseason too).

My hope is these two guys were ones who had a killer instinct and left IU because the program wasn't aligned with them. Seeing from afar that our coach has instilled that mentality and them missing home has brought em back. Thats just my hope though. ha

Just for informational purposes;
T. Wyatt the massive G/T out of JMU has committed to Virginia...

In my opinion. he was a high risk / possible reward type anyway as he is coming off a serious injury that kept him out all last season... At any rate, it appears he's headed elsewhere...

Yep... If you take away the P and the K ..., of the 14 left, fully half of them are from neer peer type teams this time around... What that means, if anything, we'll find out next Fall...

To that, our team will be in year 2 of the installation of these systems. Our players who were just depth last year, are going to be bigger and when it comes to knowing the system, they're leaps and bounds ahead of last year in knowing what to expect. They understand the playbook so now they can focus on perfecting their craft so they can get more comfortable playing reactionary/freely. I fully expect we should see strides in the talent base in our depth, if not improvements that make them legitimate threats to be great players on the field as first string.
