Four-star point guard Bruce Brown could cut his list by the end of the July, and there has been a lot of strong chatter the past couple days about how this recruitment could play out and what schools are in the strongest positions.

This is recruiting chatter, so keep that in mind as you go through this …

There has been a lot of chatter the past couple days that Arizona has a couple players now clearly ahead of Brown on their wish list, that Michigan has backed off and this could be coming down to an Indiana-Texas-SMU battle and perhaps and Indiana-Texas battle.

For background, the four-star point guard ranked No. 52 in the 2016 class has said he hopes to cut his list by the end of July. Indiana, Michigan, Texas, Arizona and SMU were among the main heavy hitters who had been recruiting him.

Moving to the present, there is heavy chatter that Arizona now has other players it wants more and Michigan has lifted off the gas because it wants a guard who is more of a consistent perimeter shooter. Michigan jumped in with Brown for a bit after losing Tyus Battle but hasn’t been involved as much lately.

Among guards in the 2016 class, Arizona has been focusing on five-star guard Markelle Fultz, No. 1-ranked Josh Jackson and No. 10-ranked Frank Jackson. Futlz was considered an Arizona lean at one point, then Kentucky offered and it’s unclear at the moment level of impact that could have on Fultz.

IU has watched Brown as consistently as any other major program going back to the two spring evaluation periods. IU was active again this past evaluation period (the second of the three evaluation periods) at the Cream of the Crop event in Los Angeles.

Texas also has been continuing its ardent pursuit of Brown and hasn’t backed off.

SMU is still involved with Brown but also is one of five finalists for four-star guard Tony Carr. The chatter is that SMU just wants a point guard and would take either Carr or Brown.

There are others involved for the Vermont Academy standout who plays for the Boston Area Basketball Club — including Boston College — but the above is why there is so much chatter about a possible Indiana-Texas or Indiana-Texas-SMU battle.
