Reasonable Democrat Politicians

Beshear of Ky

I attended a groundbreaking last week that Gov. Beshear headlined. Talked to him for a couple minutes, but nothing more than the surfacy talk that is typical with pols at these kinds of events.

I would hate being a politician and having to go to countless events like these, give the boilerplate speech, shake a hundred hands, take a hundred pictures, and pretend that you're interested in anything other than getting out of there as quickly as possible.

That said...I do think that Beshear has been a terrific governor and would be a very good option for Dems. Same with Shapiro. He's always impressed me.

Sadly I'm not sure they can. I saw a poll ylthe other day and both barely registered. We are our own worst enemy in this country. Guessing Dems will roll out AOC or Kamala sadly.

I'd take Pete over those two
Pete had a chance to distinguish himself during Covid. He wasn’t good.

I agree on both. How can they get out front ahead of the far left extremists that’s running the narrative right now?

I wouldn't say that the far left is running the Dems' narrative -- if by that you mean Sanders, AOC, etal. They're competing for it -- and clearly have more cachet than they had in the Clinton and Obama eras. But I don't think it's right that they've grabbed the party's gavel.

Biden's obviously off the stage now. But let's not forget that he was about as representative of the center-left DC/Dem establishment as somebody could be. In fact, that's probably what made him the consensus choice in the 2020 primary.

After recovering from his stroke he’s been pretty good at his job. I am okay with the Hoodie deal sometimes. Lol. There’s a time to wear a suit and tie.

The hoodie and all that aside, I'm not sure I can remember a recent politician who so quickly went from left-wing darling/right-wing scourge to almost the precise opposite position as Fetterman has.

The left swooned over him in the 2022 election -- favoring him over the more centrist Conor Lamb. And I could understand why. He ran a pretty populist campaign. Since then, there's even been a not-so-subtle push to get him to resign for health reasons -- which is funny, because the right was arguing that he should've stepped aside during the campaign.

It goes to show just how disingenuous politics really is. Nobody who has made an issue of his health actually cares about the impact that has on his ability to do the job.

i was incredibly unkind about him prior to his election. still way too left for me but he's a breath of fresh air imo. i hope he carries on and his health stabilizes

AI continues to improve:

Moderate Democrats, often associated with the New Democrats or centrist faction, are a group within the Democratic Party who favor a more centrist approach to politics, balancing social liberalism with fiscal responsibility. They often advocate for Third Way politics, which emphasizes pragmatism and bipartisan cooperation.

Key Characteristics of Moderate Democrats:
  • Cultural Liberalism:
Generally hold socially liberal views on issues like abortion rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and environmental protection.

  • Fiscal Conservatism/Pragmatism:
Tend to favor balanced budgets, fiscal responsibility, and policies that promote economic growth while ensuring a safety net for those in need.

  • Bipartisan Approach:
Often seek common ground and compromise with Republicans on policy issues, prioritizing practical solutions over ideological purity.

  • Examples:
Historically, this faction includes figures like Bill Clinton and his supporters. The New Democrat Coalition in the House and the Blue Dog Coalition (though it has moved slightly left in recent years) represent this wing of the party, according to Wikipedia.
Examples of Moderate Democrats in the Senate:

The woman behind him can't even keep a smile off her face and she can't even see the moustache. She just feels its presence in the room and knows everything is going to be all right.

Democrats have plenty of time to find a reasonable and moderate candidate for president. Furthermore, it could be current sleeper such as Seth Moulton who is a Congressman from Massachusetts.

Granted he took a brief whirl in running for Prez in 2020. This only tells me he is interested. So, he has some fire in the belly for the job.

Give me Cuban as an independent or creating a new party. Few could pull off giving the middle finger to both the parties. You've got to have a celebrity name.

So you support the state paying for ibogaine research? That sounds unusual for a conservative.
No. That money should stay in state. Be used for treatment. Fund addiction centers tele med etc. drug ct. abatement treatment today. they already have suboxone etc. use these monies now in ky. Not research

My reading was that Beshear is not allowing the research. Where is the money quote in that which indicates I am wrong?

You mean white male, right?
Frankly, at this point in history the Dems probably need a middle aged white male as their guy in 2028. Their past 4 candidates were a black middle aged man, a white elderly woman, a white elderly man, and a black/Indian middle aged woman. In 2028 it’ll be 28 years since they’ve run a white middle aged man. The time is right, especially now since there are a couple who can appeal to both parties.
