Before the season even began, I figured IU's football team would finish 8-4 or 7-5. That was before we knew how improved Michigan, MSU, Iowa and Penn St. would be. Also before we knew Penix would have so much trouble bouncing back from injury, and that the defensive secondary's production would decline as much. And now all these injuries. We need to face the reality that last season's schedule was one of the easiest ever, and this season's is turning into a nightmare. The Big 10 may finish with five or six teams in the top 20, which would arguably make it the strongest league in the country. It's easy to point to a few coaching decisions or crucial turnovers as significant, but this season's problems go way beyond those things.
