So I'm on the PSU football board and there's a thread about ranking the BT football coaches......For the most part they rank Franklin as a top 3 BT HC alongside Day, Rhule, and/or Lanning. They mention Cig, but basically state that its too early to tell. I can understand the reluctance, but there's not much doubt that what Cig did with the IU program this year was amazing.

I don't agree with ranking Franklin and Rhule so high, but what got me thinking is that Cig is arguably the best football HC in the BT, while Mike Woodson is very likely the worst basketball HC in the BT. And, I believe, the worst head coach of any basketball or football program in the BT.

For argument's sake, what are the odds that Indiana would have both the best and worst BT HC of their major programs? 2000 to 1?? Ok, now what are the odds that Indiana would have the best FOOTBALL coach and the worst BASKETBALL coach in the BT? 10000 to 1??

If it is a uniform distribution, and totally random, the chance is 1/18*1/18=0.00309 or 3 out of a thousand. This would be like each school pick their basketball coach by throwing a dart and then again throwing a dart for football.

If you ask what is the chance that an athletic department, after due diligence, could pick the best football coach but still stupid enough to pick Woodson then the chance of having both are much less than 3 out of a thousand.

Did you get an "A" in Finite Math M118?

It seems pretty well accepted that the athletic department did not "pick" Woodson.
