The largest owner of rare earth minerals, by far, is China. But a decent amount is in Ukraine. This link has 22 of the 34 rare earth metals in Ukraine. In what may be a total shock, more than half are in regions Putin is trying to take.

So President Trump has decided that supporting Ukraine may well be worth it.

That idea of giving US access is not too new, Zelensky and others floated it last year.

Oh, that first embedded link lists something interesting, another source for the US is Greenland.

So there are stories out there that Trump's new interest in Ukraine and Greenland is Musk working behind the scenes. I don't know if it was Musk, while true a Tesla becomes a paperweight without those metals, it is also true a lot of US production shuts down without these metals.

So I don't buy that it is a make Musk wealthier scheme. With China, Russia already owning a lion's share, and Vietnam, Brazil, and India, also being major producers, our acquisition ability is iffy (except for domestic and Canadian). If our concern for BRICs is real, rare earth is a commodity in conflict.

Purdue to the rescue, and led by one of my old professors (Dr. Linda Wang).

I am going to give Purdue some credit, yesterday was senior day for their women's team against IU. Before the game they introduced the IU seniors and gave them a small gift, flowers or something. I thought it was a classy display. I assume this is what they do every year, it just happened to be the IU game was moved from mid season to the end.
